Do you or your husband have a "cool" job?

I don't know if DH has a "cool" job. It pays well, though :)

Just a guess here, but coming from another fellow Michigander I would guess it would have to, in order to drag you from Texas. Smile, ( I can't get them to work right now.)

iggbees I am not postive, but I belive that (x-ray crystallography) is what my DH worked with when getting his PhD in chemestery. I guess I should pay more attention when he talks, but that was a while ago.

Okay here it is - cool jobs!

My "hubby":
~ retired Knight at Medieval Times, currently acting as MC
~ runs his own custom costume and leather accessories business

Me:
~ video editor, has vast resume that includes crappy features, cheap porn, silly MOW's, high quality news, promos, previews and Entertainment Tonight!
~ run my own wedding and special event videography biz. I can spot a Bridezilla the moment she opens her mouth.

Most people think my job is cool- I'm a forensic DNA analyst. It's like any other job though (and not at ALL like CSI!), we still have bosses and deadlines and meetings and idiot coworkers. Plus we deal with the evidence from violent crimes and that can get to you after a while. The good part is I work in a nice clean lab, not out there with dead bodies. The bad part is I work in a nice clean lab with parts of dead bodies- not to mention their clothing, fingernails, hair, and other assorted nasty things- on a daily basis.

I nominate you for the "coolest job" award, sounds fascinating!

DH does something with designing the way lighting and electrical systems will be in hospitals and schools and makes sure they meet codes (I think that's what he does, I don't understand it)

I'm still in graduate school, but my side job is fun-I'm the secretary at the area arena/theater venue, so I get to answer the phone about all sorts of different events and I learn who tons of people are that I would never have heard of otherwise (like Dave Sedaris, Trey Anastasio, etc etc etc). I get to go backstage at whatever I want and I basically sit and DIS all day when I'm there, since my primary responsibility is phones. LOVE working there. The people are fantastic!

Dh used to be a chef, I don't know if that's cool but it sure makes me happy!

DH is a professional scuba diver. Yes, there is such a thing. Who knew? He teaches, but he also works on movie & TV projects as a safety diver. Pretty much anytime there are actors in the water, a safety diver is there. So he hangs out with his buddies and movie stars all day, sometimes in really cool places, and they all think HE is Joe Cool.

I have the not cool, pays well, excellent benefits, stressful job.

We joke that he'll die old and tan with a smile on his face. I will die young and pale, with my blackberry in one hand and my cell phone in the other.

wow, that's awesome. did you go to school for that specifically?

i'm going to be starting my job soon as a technician in a biochemistry lab that does work on proteins. at some point i'll get to work with x-ray crystallography. i worked over the summer at a paint company. i got to use a spray paint gun, which i thought was the coolest thing ever!

No, I just have a general degree in Biology. It's a second career for me.

So many of your or your SO's have such COOL jobs! Be glad, happy and proud to have cool jobs that you enjoy! I do video editing from home... taking photos and video footage and editing them with a musical soundtrack (and/or voiceovers) to create personalized dvd movies. Most customers are for graduations, anniversaries, milestone birthdays, baby's 1st birthday or memorials (wakes) etc. I love the work more than the pay! And the coolest part, I can do it from home and still do my COOLEST job, raising my four darling kids.

My DH is an attorney (when my DS was in pre-K when they went around the room asking what everyones dad did, he said "My Dad's a Golfer, oh yeah, and a Lawyer"). DH is a golf fanatic. I wouldn't say his profession is cool but he has some exciting days. He can't really talk about his cases until they are settled. I am a paralegal but have been a stay at home mom for about 10 years now. I did have some interesting cases when I worked but I still have interesting days at my job now too! ;) My kids keep it pretty darn interesting if ya know what I mean! Never a dull moment! :goodvibes

I don't know about cool, u tit is interesting most of the time. I am a former Police Deputy and my DH is a Police Sergeant. Always keeps something to talk about at the dinner table, lol:)

My DH is a recording engineer at large music studio here. He has worked with a lot of the Latin recording stars.

DFi is a scientist at a major liquor company...which means he gets paid to play around with different kinds of booze all day--and taste it too. Granted, the technical parts of his job are hard (he majored in chemical engineering) but I hate him anyways :drinking1

I am just an academic advisor...pretty boring. Good thing he balances us out! :teeth:

Mine is pretty convoluted (strategy at an investment bank) but my boyfriend is a sportswriter who covers football in Philadelphia. His face is in the paper with his column, and he gets spotted all over the area. Especially at the Wawa food market. :)

Well right now I'm a bum and I don't know that I'd consider Matt's job cool. He is active duty army for the past 8.5 years with the signal corp. He makes sure everyone has telephone and internet service. and oh yeah occasionaly dodges bullets and has his humvee set on fire

My husband is a CPA which is rather boring, but he doesn't work in accounting right now. He is President and CEO of 3 small to medium-size manufacturing companies. He's another one that will die with the Blackberry in his hand...

I run a 5th grade reading program at the elementary school part time, and for the most part a SAHM. Not always cool, but I can't complain.

My fulltime "real" job is a Marketing Coordinatoe for a big company hear in Orlando. My parttime job is working as a concierge in a hotel. That is a cool job because I basically get to play the Disboards "live" as I like to call it. I sell tickets and answer questions and help people plan their vacations. You would have no idea how many people come into town not knowing what they want to do.
My favorite job is working seasonally at Universal. I work right in the theme park running the rides and I love it. It can be very stressfull work too esp. when it is 100 degrees outside and the lines are over an hour long.
My hubby has an even cooler job than me. He also works seasonally at Universal, but his "real" job is a Massage Therapist at one of the biggest resorts in Orlando. (I know you've heard of it. ;) )

My dh is a professional engineer who works by contract and has worked on major projects all over the States. In Oklahoma he worked on designs for Cessna jets for corporations, in Arkansas he worked on Bluebird busses, in NY he worked on the F35 Joint Striker Fighter, in Virginia he worked on automotive lighting such as for the Dodge Durango (I still have an extra pair of headlights in my garage  - anyone want them? :teeth: ), in TX he worked at Lockheed Martin, plus other stuff, too, and now he's in Maryland working for Northrop Grumman.

I like that he loves his job, but he comes home only on weekends which royally sucks. He was going to accept a job at Bombardier making jet skis, but I love America too much. :earsgirl:

My dad has a cool job, too. He owns a small moving company and has moved for a popular show in Hawaii (Lost). I don't even watch the show, though. lol He is a friendly guy, works hard, and networks well.

DH does something with computers. He tries to tell me but I hear blah, blah blah. They seem to love him at work and he has all the benefits.

I home school my boys by day and teach gymnastics at night. It is a fun job. I go to meets on the weekends and it is great to see my girls do well after working so hard. I also get to take my kids to work with me and they get to play on the trampoline and in the pit while I work.

DH is a self-employed TV cameraman. He makes commercials, does shows, travels all over the world for his clients. He won an Emmy in 2002.

Since 2000, he has been seasonal staff for the Baltimore Ravens. He shoots "behind the scenes" and player and coach interviews for the team's 2 TV shows. This requires unrestricted access to the HQ and game sidelines. He also travels with the team to all away games. Many times the networks and NFL Films use his footage...so you've probably seen some of his fine work. :love2:

Finally, this weekend I get to go away with him/them. We'll be in Chicago...first trip in 10 years without the kids. :guilty:

I dont have the cool job but I make the cool money , my DH has the "Hot" bawwwaaa Cool job of a Firefighter /Paramedic

He gets to do what he loves I get to support us LOL , Next time your city wants to knwo if the fire dept / police dept need a raise VOTE YES ! It is sad that most Firefighter wives make more then thier husbands
