Hot sauce after it has been opened, also how long is it good? There is nothing on the bottle to indicate that you need to refrigerate, it was opened about 10 months ago and has been closed tightly in a dark cabinet.

PS - the ingredients are as follows: cayenne peppers, vinegar, hot peppers and spices. I just want to be sure.

Hey there Debi,, I don't think I have ever refridgerated Tobasco sauce.. if hot sauce is tomato based sometimes it needs to cold.. but it usually will say so on the bottle.. somewhere.

btw.. I used to love it when dh got those itty bitty tobasco sauce bottles in his MRE's;)

Debi, no offense but, almost anything in the frig or out of it after being "opened" for 10 months would be pitched in the trash if I find it!! (Although, I'm trying to think of an exception?- cereal, crackers, I don't know for sure)

In our house, hot sauce doesn't last 10 mos. ;) DH loves the stuff and DS is gaining a liking to it also. We buy it unrefrigerated and store it that way until it's opened, then it hit's the frig. (just my house opinion)

;)

it doesn't say on the bottle, so i assumed no. we have a 3 month old bottle of tabasco in our pantry and it is opened. no problems yet.

If it was something like salsa or picante sauce, you'd need to refrigerate it. Tabasco-style sauce doesn't need to be refrigerated, but it may have a longer shelf life if you do. It's probably safe since it has so much vinegar, and since I doubt you'll be eating big quantities.

I don't refrigerate tabasco sauce either.
