Do you need to borrow points prior to making a reservation?

This is my first post. I have leared much information from reading the posts.

I thought I read in the past I did not need to have points in the account prior to making a reservation. I have '07 points that will be borrowed, but I don't want to do that right now. How far in advance of the trip must the points be borrowed and in the account? I have 30 points, but need additional points for a trip in September. Thanks for the information!

You borrow the points when you make the reservation. Then, even if you have to cancel the reservation, those points have been borrowed into the use year of the reservation and have to be used before it's over.

Remember that the reservation is made at the 11 month window, and the borrowing takes place at that time, should you need to.

Use year has nothing to do with WHEN you can book. Points are tracked by the use year the reservation is in.
For example: You have a March use year. In May of 2006, you call for an April 2007 trip. That trip is in your 2007 use year, so while the points aren't actually in your account yet, you will be using those points for that ressie. (unless you are using banked points).
