Do you need only advertise garage sales on Craigslist nowadays?

I surely don't want to pay to place a garage sale add in the newspaper, so is Craigslist the only way to go these days?

If I was having a garage sale, I would also put an ad in the newspaper to maximize the amount of people that know about it. Some of my friends (all in their 30s) go to yard sales all the time, and they look in the newspaper to find out where they are. Also, not everyone is computer savvy, and wouldn't know to look at Craig's List. I would probably do both.

I never realized that Craigslist advertises yard sales. Whenever I go looking for them I check the local paper and just watching for signs that people post along the road.

Whenever I have a yard sale myself, I always put signs up along the road leading to my house and sometimes placing an ad in the local paper.

I personally would have never thought to look in Craigslist.

I agree that, unless you're in a super high-traffic area, a newspaper ad is probably a good idea. Maybe you could ask around the neighborhood to see if others are interested in having sales, and split the cost of the ad. Besides, if you advertise it as a "block sale" or "neighborhood sale," you'll probably get more customers. :thumbsup2

our paper offers online ads for free. I do that and Craigslist and have done fine. If I know I have a ton of stuff, I'd do the print ad, too.

Definitely an ad in the yard sale section of the local newspaper, but good signs leading people to your house are the most important thing.

My local paper offers yard sale ads for free. I also posted on CL when I had one earlier this month as well as good signs on the road.
