Do you need an oven?

Driving from DE to Jacksonville. Renting camper in Jacksonville. Driving to Destin (actually, Santa Rosa Beach) for a wedding - my kids are flower girl and ring bearer. :) We're camping at Topsail Hill Preserve SP.

THANKS!

You are going to absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this place (as long as it's not cold)!!! We are return visitors at the beginning of every summer. We have met several families there and we all meet up again every summer during the first two weeks of June. Take your bikes and helmets. Depending on their ages, it is generally safe for the kids to ride around the "block" by themselves while you sit outside. You can ride your bikes to the beach (no driving cars down) or take the tram so bikes are not necessary.

There is a grocery store very close so you don't have to stock up at the first walmart you see.
Have fun and make sure you collect some great sea shells!!!

Frank..you are a lucky man!

If I come in Oct. I will bring a fresh "ready to cut and bake" roll of Halloween cookies! That's as close as I get to baking when camping!
Come to think of it..that's as close as I come to baking period.:rotfl:
oh..that and brownies! ;)

Oh yeah,,Brownies will work too !

Sorry Jim...
I'm with Denise..I've "baked" cookies in the camper...if you could call it that. I bought the cookie dough on a roll that you slice off and put on a baking sheet and pop in the oven. The ones with the cute little ghosts or pumpkin's on them. It was in October, they were good. Nice with a mug of hot mulled cider.
Also..I like to make garlic bread if we're having a pasta dinner. Use the oven for that too.

If I were renting a camper..I don't think I'd care if there was an oven..especially if the OP is using the dining plan while in Disney, don't think it would be an issue to be without an oven. I've found it comes in handy in our trailer though. Although I have to admit..I wouldn't want to do without the microwave in either a rental or our own.

You see, guys, I'm not saying it's not done, I'm just saying I have never seen it done. So you guys need to prove it to me, and the only way is to bake me some cookies sometime when we are camping together at the fort.

We use our convection/microwave on every trip. If the weather is bad outside, it gives you another option inside. We use it both as a microwave and as a convection oven.

Go for the bunkbeds and buy one of the options mentioned in previous posts. You're all going to be tired at the end of the day, and the bunkbeds will give you the best sleeping option.

I have 2 options for our trip:

24 ft. travel trailer with bunks (kids will be thrilled) and dinette area that will become double bed. No microwave or oven.

20 ft. travel trailer without bunks (kids will be bummed), but microwave and oven and more convenient hot water switch (?) and quiet A/C unit... according to the owner, it's more luxurious.

I'm leaning toward 24 ft. b/c the bunks are in the back and I can close the door and put kids to bed while we can stay up. But, I am worried about not having a microwave, but wonder how much I'll be using it anyway if we have disney dining plan.

TIA!
You seem to have made an informed choice. Go have fun

I agree with a previous poster: You're going to be spoiled after camping at the two BEST places in the United States! I know it ruined us. Nothing compares to Topsail Hill or FW.

We have a 5th wheel with a bunk room. It's a room with a door and we love it. The kids go to bed and we can stay up. Or now that our kids are getting older -- and so are we! -- they can stay up and read with the door closed and we can sleep.

We use our microwave, toaster oven and stove, but only use our oven when the urge to make everyone at the CG's mouth water with the smell of fresh-baked cookies overwhelms me. The cookies on the middle of the baking sheet are always burned and the ones on the outside are so-so. I'd love to take the oven out and put in storage instead.

If you're on the DDP, you will be fine without an oven. You won't even think about it. But you'll probably be thinking about buying a camper after camping, especially at Topsail Hill and FW.

What time of year are you going? If you get a chance, you're kids will love swimming at St. Andrews State Park in Panama City, too. We always take a side trip to swim there when we're at Topsail Hill.
