do you make your own popcorn from scratch?

I don't like microwave popcorn, so have always just popped regular kernal popcorn. So, when I saw the title of this thread, I thought, 'isn't it easier to just buy a bag of kernels, rather than growing, harvesting, drying, and shucking popcorn?' :lmao:

I think I was tired and reading too much, lol.

You should all know this thread inspired me to make a gallon-size ziplock freezer bag of popcorn (olive oil, sea salt, cracked pepper) the other day which I brought with me in my carry on as I went SAN-DFW. The TSA was envious. My fellow seatmates were envious! popcorn::

Whoa. That sounds delicious! Did you make that on the stove or microwave?

Finally, on post #43....someone makes popcorn the best way! With bacon grease! It is so yummy. I am considering popcorn for breakfast after reading this thread!

My husband grew up in a family of 7 and they lived on popcorn. It is such an inexpensive snack to make.

We use the airpopper for popcorn without many calories for my sons' lunches. This has saved us money ... but we primarily did it as a crunchy lunch side for my son who struggles with his weight. This was one of the greatest tips for our son.

Now, when we have it in the evening as a snack, my husband makes it with oil in a pan then adds butter and salt. It is so much better than the store bought microwave popcorn.

.... HOWEVER, one of my husband's vendors gave him popcorn for Christmas and told him to make it with BACON FAT. We tried it ... and it is to DIE for! (But not good for watching your calories :lmao: so we won't be having it cooked this way very often!)

One tip I do have ... is the burned popcorn sticks to the bottom of the pot and is so hard to get out ... so, we have one popcorn pot that is for making popcorn.

YUM! Can you give us a "how to" please :goodvibes

Oh. And I'm having popcorn for lunch today. This thread has driven me crazy and I'm craving it now :)

I made this in the Stir Crazy popcorn maker (purchased @ Target for $20)

I only use less than half the oil the booklet calls for... so when I use 2/3 of kernels I use about 3/4 tablespoon of olive oil, rather than 2 tablespoons. I let it pop and immediately sprinkle with sea salt then twist the pepper grinder over it. This made the gallon-sized bag AND gave me about 3 servings to eat while watching a crappy movie. And yes, I ate all 3 servings. My local natural market sells popcorn kernels in bulk @ 89 cents/lb.... so it's the cheapest, most healthful snack I can make... and LIGHT!

Question, I received an Air Popper for Christmas with Orville Redebacher seeds. After it pops, some of the popcorn is so chewy. Is that just the brand? My 4 year old loves popcorn, but will not eat this, since it is so chewy, strange texture. Any thoughts?

I'm sold! I'm buying the Stir Crazy!

Can anyone suggest where to buy Coconut Oil? I have never heard of it! I must live under a rock. LOL.

I found it in the organics section at one of my local supermarkets, but only one of three carries it. Whole Foods and other organic-type grocery stores are more likely to have it, and while it is more expensive than, say, olive oil, it's also supposed to be better for you.
