Do You Lysol Spray Your Stateroom?

I travel with clorox wipes as well - I clean the trays and seats on the airline and will clean everything in the room as well.

I use the wipes to clean at home, why not on vacation - every little bit helps and it makes me feel better.

I didn't do any of that and neither of us got sick.

Someone mentioned pillows....the pillows are not changed between guests but I assume the covers on the decorative ones are, right? Not talking about the big red one just the others that don't have pillow cases on them. They have something similar to a pillow sham on them. They look machine washable so I had assumed those would be taken off and swapped out. Right???

That article is gross! Now I want a black light! I do Lysol and wipe down our hotel room and plane seat. I've seen the CM cleaning the staterooms after the cruise and they are using some heavy duty stuff which would probably work better than Lysol. I do spray our stateroom room pillows and bed down with a Lice repellant. That scares me more than a cold!

:scared1:

I have two small children, and try as I might they don't always wash their hands or keep their hands out of their mouths.

So yes, I do a once over of the major surfaces (remote, counter tops, etc) with clorox wipes. And we will take on hand soap this next trip to try and increase handwashing compliance.

I'm one of those people who believes in a good thorough hand washing frequently with soap and water. I don't drag sanitizer with me everywhere as I have heard that there is such a thing as over doing it and actually making one's self more susceptible.

I did bring Clorox wipes on my April cruise and did wipe stuff down, but not every single surface. After that, I used it to clean up a bit as I like to be neat and wipes make it easy. I also brought hand soap just because I think bar soap is messy.

When we stay at any resort, I do wipe down our resort room when we first arrive. I don't get housekeeping (as DVC members, we are offered it every 4 days and I just keep my DND sign up and wash our towels in the insuite washer/dryer) so no one outside my family comes in and touches anything. I use my own sheets at the resort.

However, I didn't do any of the on the ship. I knew that our stateroom host would be coming in at least twice a day and I felt it would just negate wiping everything. So we don't eat anything without washing our hands and I do still wipe the tv remote.

We are a family of hand washers. We wash our hands before eating anywhere we are. We wash our hands when we enter the resort, stateroom (and our house). We even wash our hands when we visit friends and relatives. I wish they would do that as well. I have asked my children's friends to wash their hands when they come into my house. On the ship, when we go for dinner, we wash our hands before we go and my children know to use their elbows or the back of their hands to touch elevator buttons (but we rarely used them). Then when we get there, we wipe with wipes provided. The only thing I wish they would do is offer wipes as well after touching the menus and before we eat. Even a moist towelette set on the tables would be great.

But other than that, we do find that handwashing is very important and there isn't a clean place to wash, we do use the hand sanitizer.

We also wipe down the entire room and especially the outside of the stateroom door and handle and any place we lean on or put our hands. I lost ten pounds do to some bacteria or virus on the Magic year ago and decided to take some extra precautions. Now I gain ten pounds.. which is alot more fun.

For what it's worth, I clorex wipe the remote, the light switches, the phone, etc. As I work in public health, I know this is futile considering the exposure to germs I'll get from the public areas, but yet I do it. I could be worse. My mom cleans the tub in every hotel room she checks into!

Frequent hand washing, that's the way to go :thumbsup2.

I have used Chlorox wipes (they come in a travel pack of like 15) to wipe things...I wouldn't want to carry the spray.
I also bring a small spray air freshener for the bathroom, and a pump foaming hand soap for by the sink (I think bar soap is GROSS!!!)

I also bring Chlorox wipes and do the door knobs, etc.

And this is exactly why and how super bugs that we are resistant to are created! Why not just create a sterile bubble and travel in that! I travel for a living and have worked in dentistry for 16 years I have never taken extreme precaution to sanitize my personal spaces I travel to. Yes at work I sanitized my operatories and instruments as required, but I used good hand washing techniques (washing up to the elbow etc) and not once had more than a common cold. Now I'm still in the medical field but in a different capacity as a sales rep for dental (same as a pharma rep just dental) and travel 80% of the time staying in hotels, on planes etc...I don't lysol my rooms, or chlorox wipe them again I wash my hands often and keep it movin. Still I don't get sick. I don't consider this as being lucky or having a better immune system than others, though I would say it's not suppressed and it clearly works as it should because I let it do what it's intended to do by not stripping it of vital germs it needs to build natural antibodies.

I do this same exact thing...as in all of the above! I do like the peace of mind that I get from wiping things down. And I love having our cabin smell pretty and having nice pump soap, too...:goodvibes

We as a family are never sick either and everyone I know that is on the antibacterial/wipe bandwagon is constantly sick. So no I won't be taking lysol or clorox wipes on my cruise.

I don't lick all that stuff or touch it then put my fingers in my mouth. So no. I just wash my hands after the restroom and before eating just like at home, land hotels and restaurants.

This.

We just did the 15 night Hawaii, and didn't get sick at all. Just made sure hands were washed after restroom uses and before eating.

So for those who DO bring your wipes etc and wipe down the room. Do you rewipe it every time you come into your room? At the vary least your stateroom attendant is in there twice a day, and he/she's touching all KINDS of stuff before he touches all the things he does in your room.

(not a wiper myself, I believe in good, frequent, handwashing, and that we all need exposure to some germs to stay healthy! just curious if those particular enough to wipe down the room do so multiple times per day, since otherwise it seems pointless).

I'm currently researching anti viral options. I know I won't be counting on anyone but myself to sanitize all the surfaces. How could they have time for this detailed and time consuming task? The trick is to keep the kids out of cabin until complete. And yes I may "do" our regular path after hours too. I may do the whole ship if I have enough DotDs. Hey I'm sure other Diser's with kids would help. OK that's it. Sanitation club meets in Skyline nightly @ midnight. BYOW. (bring your own wipes) :rotfl:

Don't forget the TV remotes, light switches, shade pulls, and hangers.

Yes, a touch of OCD.:lmao:

I've read many reports of illness while on ships. This would be devastating after all the planning, anticipation, waiting, and not to mention expense. I
can't imagine being quarantined, but I'm glad I read about that possibility prior to sailing.

Good Luck to all.

:goodvibes

I was thinking of bringing wipes and spray after reading a recent article (don't know if anyone read) regarding a very upset lady's family being infected with nori- virus :sick::scared: DH is not going to be happy about the huge Lysol can, but I sympathize with the post quoted above. I don't want DS5, DH or I to be quarantined after the planning.......expense, etc!

I'm not an obsessive wiper, generally one pass over the room is sufficient for us.

LOL....:rotfl2:

I do bring Clorox wipes not for other peoples germs but because I travel with 2 kids who eat ice cream and pizza and other sticky stuff and get it on door knobs and mirrors and such. I don't want the stateroom host thinking we are a bunch of savages and I don't think he/she should have to try to open the door through mickey bar chocolate.

I use Clorox Wipes just the 1st time our family enters our stateroom. I use the wipes on all the surfaces as mentioned before. Although the goal is to eliminate germs from viruses, I also am grossed out by feces left on the remotes etc. I think that is mostly what you would find on many of the surfaces just because so many people don't wash their hands after using the bathroom.

Nope. No Lysol or Clorox on the ship, in hotels, on airplanes, on the Metro, at work, etc etc etc. Just washing the hands in the bathroom. And I have no objection to bar soap.

No Way.. Who wants to clean on vacation? :confused3 And No, we have never even once been sick on any vacation.. My husband flies ALL over the world and never wipes down anything..And Surprise, The man never got sick..(Think third world countries.) As a matter of fact, He gets mandatory Flu shots and the one year where it was huge in our area, (US) He was the one who was very ill with the flu while our son and I were fine in 3 days not having the shot..Go figure..
