Do You Love Your House (Insp. by robinb)

Well, I love that I actually have a house, but I don't love the house itself. We've lived here for 3 years and are planning on moving in another 3-4 years (we're on the 7 year plan). It's just a starter home for us, so we settled on it knowing we would eventually get what we want.

Yup.... LOVE my house. DH and I built it 10 years ago and have put lots of $$, as well as blood, sweat, and tears in it since we moved in. My DH accepted a transfer to Atlanta about three years ago. The day we made the decision to move I SOBBED the entire plane ride home from Atlanta (the other passengers must have thought I was my way to a funeral!). The hardest part was going to be leaving my house.... friends and family I can visit, but my house would be gone for good! I know it it foolish to be that attached to wood and nails, but I cannot help it. ANYHOW, right after we accepted the transfer (which was to happen the following spring) 9/11 happened, the economy took a dump, and all corporate moves were cancelled. We lived for another 18 months thinking it would still happen eventually, but got tired of living in limbo, DH applied for another job within his company that would keep him here in NH, and got it, so no moving for us!

YES, I LOVE MY HOUSE!................P

I absolutely ADORE our house and can't help but gush about it. We just closed on it this past april and moved in May and we love it more every day we live in it. It's a 130 year old Queen Anne style house that was in great shape with a fabulous front porch (all original materials except for decking and roof but completely rebuilt/restored by the previous owner) and it sits on a double village lot so we get the best of both worlds... the benefit of a more urban environment/neighborhood with a really nice back/side yard. It has 3 bedrooms and a large bath (almost the size of the bedrooms) with clawfoot tub upstairs and a brand new large eat in "country" kitchen/mudroom/full bath as well as a dining room and living room with GORGEOUS details plus an office for my husband downstairs. There is original woodwork and stained glass in every room (even the bathroom) except the in mudroom and downstairs bath since that is part of the new addition and has new windows.

I love this house so much that it makes me happy every time I walk into it. Sometimes I still have to pinch myself to believe that we really found something this wonderful that we could afford in the NY metro area. I knew this was meant to be our house the second I walked in (doesn't look like much from the outside and everyone was surprised when we walked in) and saw the kitchen and my MIL scoffed. To top it off, this is the least expensive house we saw in 6 months of househunting! We just got lucky and found a little area that has so little turnover that housing prices haven't quite escalated as fast as surrounding areas.

I don't love my house, but I don't hate it either. We are moving into a new house in 19 days though, that one, I LOVE! :)

I love, love, love my house! I first walked into it and it had no walls or floors, no toilets or sinks....just an empty shell of a thing. Yet, I felt like it was wrapping its arms around me and hugging me. I knew this was MY house.

That was over 2 years ago and every year, on July 26, we have a little cake for the house's birthday and buy it a new present.

I have 4.5 acres in a small farming town. Last night, while driving home, I saw a deer. When I look up and see the stars, it takes my breath away. I even saw a shooting star last night. I stayed in my yard, in my hammock with my DH and just looked at the stars until after midnight.

The only thing that would make me move are my property taxes. They are seriously getting out of control. :(

I love my house. My husband really loves it. We found out we will likely be sent overseas for work in 1 - 3 years for about 3 years....so, it looks like we'll have to sell. That is o.k. by me because I'd really like to end up in another school district and have a more modern house i.e. without a living room, but with a great room and larger kitchen. My husband is still fantasizing about holding onto the house while were away. Believe me, I won't do that. It's not fair (to the neighbors) to leave the house empty for that long and I refuse to rent it out. I'd have to gut it when I returned!

So yes, We love our house, but I've learned that no house is perfect!

Tkyes, 19 days! You must be very busy right now! Good luck with your move. :D

Yes. Since we sold most of what we owned before we moved to Florida, I've picked everything out new to the theme I've always wanted. Now if Ivan would just leave it alone!

We designed and built our current house 25 years ago, and I loved it then. I still really like it, but the neighborhood has gotten too active for me. For those of you who have followed our log home thread, you know that our "move to a new place" has been painfully slow! Now that new place is starting to feel more like home than this old one. I can hardly wait to move!

Nice pictures! When I was looking through them I thought to myself that your house looks like a lot of the houses in the region where I am from (originally). The I noticed your location and realized it was in the region. I was raised in Orange County, NY.....I am from Warwick and DH is from Goshen.

Now as for my current house, I like it, have only been in it a month and will live here for 7-12 months only. DH is military and is retiring, then we will go out and buy our first home and put down some roots! Can't wait!

I absolutely LOVE my house. We designed and built it 9 years ago, and I have decorated every inch of it myself.

I love the town, the school district, and especially the neighborhood. We only have 40 houses in our subdivision and everybody knows everybody but they aren't busybodies. We have made some very close friends with a few of our neighbors.

Life is good here!

I love my house as well. I would only add my laundry room on the same floor as the bedrooms. Other than that I love it!
Everytime I sit out on my quiet little street I think How much I love it.
We have the fighter jets based near here, and they do thier manuevers overhead and honestly, 8 years later I still love to watch them.

I have extensive flower gardens, that I plannted and love almost all of my neighbors. And I am 10 minutes from some of the best beaches on Cape Cod. I will not move until my kids are grown and out of college. So I am here for the next 20 years.:D

I love both my houses! :teeth: Actually, I had a home in FL for 7 1/2 years. I LOVED that place!! A quiet, pretty neighborhood, villa, everything on one floor, two-car garage, a fenced yard with a lake out back. :) I loved it as much on the day I moved out as the day I bought it. :teeth: Didn't think I'd feel like that about another home.

Sold it and moved to another state in March. This was the second home I looked at. The first was a no-go right off the bat. This one...I knew it was "the one" in less than five minutes of being in it! Wooo hooo! (Wish I would get that feeling about a male. LOL! Houses are easier than men! ;) )

Good luck with your move!!! That's so exciting!

I like the townhouse that DH and I are in, but I don't like having a townhouse - neighbors are too close! We live next to a very sweet retired couple, and the man is very hard of hearing. When he watches TV at night, it's really loud - and their TV room is right on the other side of our bedroom wall!! I HATE having to call them to ask Don to turn the TV down - I feel awful about it because they are so nice.

However, we are just about to start building our dream house - I can't wait! I love the house already, and it's only a blueprint right now. :teeth: It's a custom home (we found the blueprint online) and a family friend that has a construction business is going to build it. We're hoping to break ground at the end of next month.

Good luck Karen - You'll have to keep us updated! :)

Love my house, love my neighbors, not too crazy about my location, but I can live with it.

We have lived here for 7 years and are in the finishing stages of a huge remodel. Every single thing in the house will be new. We are planning on moving back in at the end of the month. I can't wait.

DH is a carpenter and is doing the work himself so we were able to spend a little more on materials. We have beech hardwood floors, cherry cabinets with granite countertops, ceramic tile in the bathrooms and mud room. We are buying all new furniture and I am actually decorating the rooms, not just throwing in whatever we had left over from when I was in school.

I can't wait to get back in!

Denae :sunny:

Brick cape on 2 acres. We have deer and wild turkeys. 6 car garage in back. Lovely neigbors.

For the most part, yes I love our house. We've lived here since June 1980. It's a large, older farmhouse that was completely remodeled in 1974, then we added on a 24'x24' family room, 3-level deck, new siding, flooring, etc. in 1987. There are still a few things I'd like to do to it but not sure when they'll get done.

I don't enjoy the location as much as I used to though, not since the dairy farmer up the road decided to expand. Milk trucks, manure haulers, hay delivery trucks, etc. going up and down the road all day long (sometimes before 7 a.m. and up to midnight) most every day.

Thanks! I've half thought about doing a thread, a la "Logging in" like Diane has done. I've always enjoyed watching the progress of her masterpiece. :)

I hate my house! We bought our first house in June and while I understand the financial value of buying over renting and my DH and DS's LOVE LOVE LOVE the house....I never wanted to own a home and I never wanted to leave the duplex we rented for 7 years. Oh well, I guess I'll get used to it in time.
