Do you love your HE washer???

Taking the idea from the cook top stove thread.....with my new stove I also purchased a new washer and dryer, which is what precipitated the purchase in the first place and since I was getting a washer and dryer delivered and needed a new kitchen stove....why not?

Well I picked out a new high efficiency washer...and not really loving it yet. The first week I washed, stuff did not get clean, the next week a pair of pants came out of the washer with what looked like lint streaked on them (which came off in the dryer ?) and the next week sweaters and shirts came out so wrinkly that there would be no way I could have just hung them up to dry and put away. I do usually iron my shirts but not sweaters and I have had to steam them when they come out of this washer. I now wash things in smaller loads (even though the drum of this thing is huge and says it is for super big loads) so now I am doing 2 loads of wash that would have been done previously in 1 just to get them clean and not so wrinkly.

I would in a minute go back to a regular washer without the HE if I was given the chance.

Yep me too. I hate that I can't just do small loads and change the length of time it washes. I miss my 25 minute washes that are now 1 hour if not more.

And don't get me started on the wrinkles. Sure the clothes dry faster because they are wrang out so well but it just crinkles them up.

My machine can't be opened up either after it has started. Well they give you a minute maybe but that is only after you start it. It unlocks and locks the door while I am still standing there. So when I find the sock or pants that didn't make to the laundry room when I go upstairs I can't just run down and open the door and though it in.

Also can't use enough bleach to make my socks and t shirts really white. I think they are dingy looking now.

The whites are exactly what I thought did not get clean the first time I used my washer. I have the oxy clean enhanced detergent and beefed it up with bleach to get my whites to look whiter.

Since I got the washer/dyer the same time as my glass top stove I have to live with it. But I did tell my husband if we sell the house they can go with it.

The over all look of appliances are beautiful in the rooms though..

We just a Kenmore last week and so far I'm loving it. My 4 year old front loader died after 4 years and the repair man said don't bother to fix it. It would have been over $400 to fix it. My new washer was under $500. They were having a sale.


I have a pause button that you can push if you need to open it. I has different setting for quicker times and longer for dirty. It also has an extra rinse cycle if needed. I haven't had problems with wrinkles, but I throw just about everything in the dryer.

I have a pause button but that does not mean I can open the door it just kind of soaks the clothes, and the I use the speed wash too and it is still an hour. If I put it on the white load button it would be way over the hour. Plus when you look it says 8 minutes or whatever left but then it goes into another cycle maybe spin or rinse and we go back up to 10 etc. So I never know when it really is going to stop. That drive me crazy because I think oh I will stand here it is almost done....then oh no the time move up again. At least my old machine you could see where the knob was and could tell if you were near the end.

Sometimes I have to use the drain and spin because my load goes off balance, yes it does right itself, no longer have to run and move the clothes around but it doesn't drain right sometimes.

Oh and I throw everything in the dry too but if the load is really big , because of the bigger washer stuff stays wrinkled or it is from the spin cycle being so high.

I love our Maytag Performance Series 4000 set. I love it and wish we would have gotten the set sooner. I haven't noticed a problem with wrinkles and I think our clothes get much cleaner than with our old set.

ETA: I have a pause button too. I can use that function in the first 8 minutes of the wash cycle to add more clothes and our dryer has some sort of wrinkle prevent feature that I love beacause I can't always get to the dryer the minute it's done.

THis drives me nuts. I feel like doing the laudry takes forever now with the front-loader. I tell dh it just tries to aggrevate me. First it says only one minute left...I stand and wait for it....no, now it's 8 minutes. Pick a time and stick with it!

I hate mine. I got it in 2003... when it dies I am going back to the biggest top loader I can find. Mine twists clothes into virtual knots.

Yup - I hate that! That's the most aggravating feature about our HE washing machine. My laundry does get really clean, though - so I can't complain about that. I also hate the way the liquid detergent is dispensed - if don't close the little drawer immediately, it starts dripping down onto the floor, even if I haven't pressed the start button yet.

I had a Kenmore Elite pair in my old house that I looooved. I got an expensive Samsung pair for my new house that I hate. The cycles take forever. It doesn't get the clothes clean either.

Oh goodness...I have the Electrolux and have had none of these issues. I absolutely love my machine.

My clothes are clean, wrinkle free, and if I have a small load, I can wash in as little as 18 min. There is a pause button which unlocks the washer door if I have forgotten to throw something in and I adore the sanitary cycle...especially after my son vomited on his blanket.

I have an HE top loader and I don't have the problems mentioned here. I wonder if there is a difference between top and front loaders.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I thought it was just me/ I have talked to people and they look at me like I have 3 heads. I am 47 years old, been doing laundry full time since I was 19. I have never had to iron so much as I have since those monsters came into this house.

I hate my HE. I refuse to buy another one. ALso my clothes stink, yes I have cleaned it. Again doing laundry for a long time, and I have never had clothes smell like this before.

I love mine but I did have to go back to Tide detergent to make sure my clothes were getting clean and I do make sure I pre-treat any stain. I have a pause button, and a ton of cycle choices including a quick wash thats 20 minutes. My washer also has a load sensor and the cycle time changes with each wash depending on the load size. I don't mind the longer wash cycles anyway because my dryer time has been cut in almost half of what it was when I had my old one. I have never had a problem with my clothes being wrinkled too much, after a run through the dryer everything comes out fine. If I hang dry it, when its still a little damp I run it through too and no wrinkles.

This. I love my HE washer. I can pause if I forgot something and pick a quicker cycle time if I need it.

After a spin through the dryer, no problems with wrinkles. Sure, the clothes come out of the washer tangled, but I just un-tangle them and give them a quick shake before they go in the dryer.

As far as detergent goes, I use All Free and Clear. In 4 years, I've never had a problem with my washer or my clothes smelling bad.

I have a Kenmore Elite, If I wasn't so poor, I would give that thing to you. I HATE it.

PS. I have always had Kenmore and loved them. I just hate this one. But then again, this is the first HE I have ever owned, I won't own another one, unless I don't have a choice at all.

I have an HE top loader and I don't have the problems mentioned here. I wonder if there is a difference between top and front loaders.

YOu know, could be. I think my DSIS has an HE, but hers is a top loader. I do laundry up there and I have no problems. But again, I am not totally sure hers is an HE.

I have had my Samsung model for about 6 months now. It was one of the top-rated models and I have none of the issues the OP describes.

My clothes are no more wrinkly. In fact my old top loader used to twist my clothes in knots.

My clothes seem much cleaner and softer for some reason.

I can do small loads as it decides how much water to use by weight.

The only drawback is that the wash cycle does take longer and that can slow me down. I wash a lot of my stuff on the Permanent Press cycle which is one of the shorter ones and that runs 44 minutes.
