Do you look older than your age?

I have been showing off my kids Thanksgiving pictures to eveyone I know!

The same comment I hear 30 times a day is that my 15 year old looks, not only older than my 18 year old, but, about 20+ years old. I was thinking about it on my way home from work today and wondered if it bothered him. I asked him when I got home and got the typical "I dont care" 15 year old answer.

Did any of you look a lot older when you were a teen? Was it a good thing or bad?

Kids want to look older, adults want to look younger--so far so good for him I say.

I always have and still look younger than I am-most people are very surprised to find out I have a high school senior.

I am always told I appear younger than my actual age ....like by ten years. I think its great, as I also "act" younger and enjoy it! Thus, a Disney addict as well
I think kids want to appear older, when its a girl, thats SCARY to me....They all look like 20's..... then you find out they're 15 It is more the way they dress than their maturity level though.

LOL, I'm your Mom's age... and I'm thrilled to be 4'11" with dimples and NO wrinkles!! My son was shocked when he found out that I was older than my nieces and nephews... he's only 16 with an ancient Mom... but he doesn't believe it!

This was me as well. As a teen, I always looked much older than my sister who is almost 6 years older than me. I got away with lots (got into clubs at 16, bought alcohol and cigarettes....yes I was a wild-child )

Then when I did turn 21, people told me I looked like I was 12. I'll be 34 tomorrow and I think my age is finally showing.

I see it that way too...that its not such a good thing. He has been shaving since he was about 13..every day! I know the beard thing bothers him and he refuses to go anywhere if he didnt shave. Once I was about 25 minutes from home driving him to basketball practice and he said "Oh, I forgot to shave". I basically said "Too bad" But he said he would not get out of the car if I didnt go back home so he could shave. I offered to take him to a CVS close by and get disposible razors, but he said he didnt want to go to practice with his face all cut up and insisted I go home so he could use his electric razor.

The armpit hair was another issue. He got it before anyone and would no longer wear his basketball tanks without a white T shirt underneath. Luckily now, everyone else is shaving and has armpit hair so he doesnt feel awkward anymore, but I wonder if other things bother him.

OMG, it was recently brought to my attention too that my oldest looks older than she is..freaked me out lol.

Here is the pic my aunt took at her H'ween party and sent to me..mind you my DD is only 11 lol..DF and I shuddered to see how much older she looked than that..my aunt was like, she already looks like a teen lol.

Mind you the pics in my siggy were take just at the beginning of the year and I couldn't believe the difference in her looks lol!

But of course!! Except for on the teen board. I'll bet they all look 21.

As to the OP's question. Yes I did look older than I was as a teen. Yes I took advantage of it. All my friends were older than I was so of course I wanted to do what they were doing. I never got asked for ID until I was old enough to drink/smoke etc.

I have always looked younger and still do. When I was 25 I bought a movie ticket and didn't pay attention to the charge. I noticed after that I got the teen ticket. Oh well, it saved me $2. It can get annoying at times though. I had to go back out to my car last summer to get my license before Walmart would sell me spray paint. You had to be over 18 which I was, by 12 years.

I'm sure being shorter doesn't help. They must think I still have a growth spurt coming, they are sadly mistaken.

DD looks younger than she is. She is 21, but looks much younger. She gets really mad when we go to the movies and they try to sell her a child ticket. I don't think she looks that young, but she's had it happen multiple times. Only this past couple of years have they stopped trying to give her child menus. Lol! It was a real trip the first time she ordered an alcoholic drink at a restaurant. The server looked her id over so long I thought for sure he was going to turn her down. He finally gave her the drink.

I keep telling her she is going to be really happy about this when she gets a few years older.

My good friend in high school looked a lot older than her age. One night when we were getting back to the school after an away bball game one of the teachers asked her out thinking she was one of the players mom's. Oh and she was 14 at the time!! It provided a lot of laughs all throughout high school. I will say she finally looks her age now.

I am 21 and get mistaken for 16-18. I don't really mind it though.

Okay, a few times when I was in high school, a friend and I went out with my mother and a few of her friends after work. Although we went together, my friend and I sat at a separate table. We were served alcoholic drinks, no questions asked.

Then when I was 26, I went to a movie with my mother and grandmother. My mother asked for "three tickets." The amount we were charged seemed a little low, but there was a line behind us, so we didn't argue. When we got further in, we looked at the tickets...we were given 2 adult and one CHILD ticket! Children at our theatre are 11 and under.

And now I'm 35, and strangers have asked me if my parents know that I'm not in school (if I go shopping during the day), am I graduating this year, etc...

Holy crap your DD is 21 now!! When did that happen.

She'll be over the moon when she's older and still gets asked for ID!

So your 15 yo looks 35-40 years old?

Do they have sun damage, crow's feet and fine lines developing? I can't see how someone would guess 20 years older on anyone unless there was significant aging in the face or they look like they had botox coming out of their ears.


And Feralpeg--TWENTY-ONE....good gosh...asking the same question here--when did that happen???


For me--I'm 35--obsetrically geriatric...woohoo!

There was a time where I looked many years youthful. After my 3rd, it's like I had some crazy aging thing. I think I look age appropriate maybe a coupel of years younger depending on the day. But I'm losing my perception on what my age should look like. I look at folks that are 10 years younger and I am wondering, what happened to me.

I was carded regularly for several years and then semi-regularly up until I had my son.

Now I get carded on rare occasion (fixed whatever my aging problem was after I had him), but now am assumed to usually be over 21. ABC liquor doesn't even card me anymore.
