:confused3 Where all the houses look the same? :confused3

not exactly....many of the houses are the same style cape as ours, but not all. There are a mix of capes and ranches and since most of the houses were built in the 40's - 50's many of them have been added on to or renovated so each one is just a little different from another one.

No, there are so many of those neighborhoods springing up in the L.A. suburbs (Palmdale, Lancaster, Canyon Country, Valencia, etc) and my mom and I would always see them and joke about how if someone came home drunk they wouldn't know which house to go in!! They all look the same. :teeth:

I live in a high rise condo where all the units are alike. The entire building was gutted and redone last year.

But my street - St. Charles Avenue in New Orleans is definitely not cookie cutter. It's a beautiful neighborhood.

yes we do. Its a home owners assn and all the houses are basically the same on the outside.

I don't now...but I'm going to be buying a house in one!!

My sister calls it "beigeville"

My neighbors are going to hate me....we are going to paint it green with river rock.

My first home was a townhouse where the units were all lined up in a row. I literally used to hit my garage opener, and that's how I knew which unit was mine. (and that was sober).

Our development is 50 years old and the houses are either ranchers (like ours) or split levels.

 Check with your HOA first!!!

There are about 700 homes in the master community we live in. Our little section is only 37 homes, all custom. The rest of the community is pretty cookie cutter. But in our enclave they are not at all. Not only are they different styles, but all different colors, landscaping, etc. There are some truly stunning homes.

We just bought a place, it's still being built and won't be finished until July but it's cookie cutter.

Little boxes on the hillside
Little boxes made of ticky-tacky
Little boxes on the hillside
Little boxes all the same

There's a green one, and a pink one,
and a blue one, and a yellow one,
and they're all made out of ticky-tacky
and they all look just the same

And the people in the houses
all went to the University
where they're all put in boxes
and they come out all the same

And there's doctors, and there's lawyers,
and business executives
and they're all made out of ticky-tacky
and they all look just the same

And they all play on the gold course
and drink their martini dry
and they all have pretty children
and the children go to school

And the children go to summer camp
and then to the University
where they're all put in boxes
and they come out all the same

And the boys go into business
and marry and raise a family
in boxes made of ticky-tacky
and they all look just the same. :teeth:

Yeah they're all hidden by the trees ;)

Actually no. Every house is very different. They range from little capes, to contemporaries, to HUGE mansions. Ok, just one mansion up on top of the mountain. But they definitely all look different, once you actually get to the point where you can see them.

Now the road off of mine is very cookie cutter, except for one house. Ironically it's the home of the developer. Go figure

I think I do. You could buy one of five different houses in the neighborhood, and then you could choose your elevations (color/style schemes) from there. But there are some house that look exactly alike. Here is mine:

This was taken just before we moved in, so nothing is done to the yard. We have since added carriage lights to the house, blinds, and done some landscaping. What you do to your landscaping and inside your houses sort of sets your house apart from the ones that look the same! Now if you want a house that isn't cookie cutter, you'd have to buy a custom - and have at least 700K.

Nope, our neighborhood has 4 sections. We live in the 3rd section and all of the houses are about 15-20 years old, except for our house and the 2 houses on either side of us (all 5 are 5 years old).

I love my neighborhood!

We live in a small neighborhood with only 2 main cul-de-sac streets with a few dead end streets off of those streets. I think there were a few builders, not sure how many floor plans and elevations. So not cookie cutters, but also not custom.

No "cookie cutter" neighborhood here. DH built our home and we live in a subdivision in the country with 3-7 acre wooded lots. We love it and it's been a great place to raise our family, yet just 10 miles from town, schools, mall and an hour from DC. There are only 12 homes, all about 25 yrs old, including single story, split level, 2 story, each with their own personality. :goodvibes

Yup, we own your basic suburban nightmare. There were 6 or 7 choices, with 3 elevations each, so most of the houses are pretty recognizable. There were 11 siding/trim packages you could choose from. We're light gray, because I'd rather live in a boxcar than anything beige or taupe. Ick!

Nope! I grew up in one though!

I currently live in a Historical District where the houses are all different. Most of the houses are 80-100+ years old, but then there are some sprinkled in here and there built in the last 30 years. For example, my house is 108 years old, but when we bought it, the developer who fixed up our house bought our huge lot, split it and built a new house next door to us. So our neighbor's house is only 9 years old. I love my neighborhood- it's quite ecclectic!
