black diamond set in antique looking white gold surrounded by 5 small white diamonds on either side. I had no clue he was even going to propose, he picked it by himself and it's exactly what I would have picked.

I LOVE my engagement ring and the wedding band wrap that my DH picked out.

I love mine, but then, I picked it out, too. (so I didn't vote)

I don't have seperate engagement and wedding rings. I didn't like the idea of wearing two rings next to each other, so I wear one ring, a band of diamonds, with the middle stone slightly larger than those on the sides. I wore it as an engagement ring, then dh slipped it on my finger again during our wedding ceremony and I wear it as a wedding ring, now.

I also have a plain gold band that I wear when a bunch of diamonds aren't practical.

I had to school my wife... or she would have picked the diamond that was "all sparkly inside"!!!! Till I told her that "it is sparkly because it is cracked! Diamonds should be clear"

My engagement ring is a mostly plain gold band with a little decoration around the edges. Its great when I do not want to flash my diamond wedding band at questionable work sites...

I went to the store and picked it out myself. No way was DH going to spend that kind of money on something I didn't like. Good man

PS- I would have NOT found it even remotely romantic if he would have done it himself. That would have been a huge turn off to me. I don't wear a lot of jewelry and have very specific tastes. I also am a big believer in quality over quantity. With that major of a financial decision, I want my opinion heard!

I felt the same way. We spent a lot on my ring and I thought it would be silly not to love it. DH set a budget he was willing to spend and I chose something within that budget. It was a very fun day, actually, driving around the city trying on rings! At one store the lady had me try on a ring worth $80k - just for giggles. It was pretty, but goodness, can you imagine actually wearing something like that?!

I really don't think there's a right or a wrong way of doing things like this, but our way worked for us. And I know it makes DH happy that I truly do adore my ring. I clean it every day and have for the past 5 years. Whenever DH catches me making it clean and sparkly, he smiles.

To a PP, I don't think there's anything wrong with a tiny diamond, or no diamond at all. I enjoy jewelery, but if you don't then it would be silly to spend a lot on it. People get very judgmental about what others choose to spend money on, because it's not what they would want. I hear it all the time, and it always annoys me.

DH designed my ring - it's completely different from anything I've ever seen. It's hard to describe. The band is not an actual circle - it has a giant "dip" in it that I would call almost a wide letter "U" that points towards my hand. The diamond is at the top left side of the "U".

My wedding band was purchased at the same time & obviously fits with the engagement ring. The wedding band has a small diamond on it, which is right next to the engagement diamond.

It is very unique. I've never seen anything like it in the 22+ years we've been married!

I love mine. I did not pick it out. It is a maruis shaped solitaire set in white gold. Simple yet elegant, IMHO.
