I have a friend who's getting married in May. She recently confessed that she loves her engagement ring because of the meaning it has and because her DF chose it for her... But that she really doesn't care for the style of the ring. It's set in yellow gold with several stones, she's has a more modern taste.

It got me thinking, I know at least two other woman who love their rings and wouldn't trade them for the world, but who also don't really care for the style.

I adore my ring, but then I also picked it. How about you, do you like the style of your ring? Would you have chosen a different style had it been up to you?

My ring is a simple solitare set in gold that my DH of 25 years picked out. I wouldn't have picked anything different.

I loved my original but tragically lost it 1 month before the wedding (no insurance :(). It wasn't something I would have picked out, but it was very neat. (Heart shaped diamond) I had no intentions on ever replacing it until it got lost. :(

The replacement was just a place holder until we were financially ready and I was emotionally ready to handle a replacement. A basic setting.

I finally got that 7 years later...it is the 3 stone setting per my request, but I didn't pick it out. I have no intentions of replacing it.

I love mine!! It's a single princess cut solitaire in a platinum band with a 4 prong setting. :lovestruc

I also picked it out myself, so I am a little biased.. ;)

I would change mine slightly if I could. Don't misunderstand, I love it, but I don't love marquis shaped stones. Mine has a large marquis with a smaller marquis on each side then a baguette on the outsides. I LOVE the baguettes, but I would switch the marquis diamonds with the Tiffany cut (I think that's what they're called - the square diamonds).

However, I definitely wouldn't trade it for anything. :lovestruc

My ring is a 1/2 carat round solitaire set in 14 kt yellow gold. It is very pretty and I've actually added to the set since we were married. The engagement ring itself is probably not what I would have selected for myself because I probably would have picked something less expensive (the cut, color and clarity of the diamond is very good). DH knew I would "sell myself short" so I had no say in it, nor did I know he was buying it (surprise proposal:love:).

I love my diamond, but I picked it out!

It is an oval (don't see them very often) and I got a wrap for it with a marquis and baguettes on either side.

I love my ring, DF picked it out himself, with a little hinting ;)
I have a white gold 3 stone princess, the setting is a little different, it kinda swoops if that makes sense

I LOVE my ring - I kinda picked it out but kinda not -- I know i'll explain, We went to the store to pick it out and I started looking at a few then got sick and was in the bathroom for most of the time we were there but while I was out I pick a few I really liked but they were closing so dh picked one out out of the few I had while I was in the bathroom yet again ....

I also love mine, and I also picked it out! DH was adament that he wanted my input. :lovestruc

I absolutely ADORE my ring. It's not what I would have picked, since my df designed the ring himself. So, he designed, carved, and then had a jewelry cast it and set the sapphires, then painted it. He used my fave Disney character as inspiration.

None of the above. I chose both of mine - vastly different, but I loved 'em both. :goodvibes

I love mine, it's exactly what I would have picked for myself. I like vintage-looking jewelry and although DH likes sleek and modern the ring he bought is exactly my taste.

I hated mine (I did not pick it) and since I'm not sentimental, I did not wear it for the past 20 plus years. Last year we went to a gemologist and purchased a stone and then had a ring made to my design, a 2 carat round in a very contemporary 4 prong platinum setting.

My son took the original one and used the stones to have an engagement ring made that he gave his fiancee earlier this year.

I have loved all my rings :rotfl: I am on my third set. Got engaged/married young and my ring was upsized twice. Love what I have but at some point I will probably change it again.

I know, blasphemy to many, but for me no biggie. The sentiment my rings stand for are more important than sticking to the original. I grew up and my ring did too :lmao:

I also picked out my own ring. My now dh knew me well enough to know I would not have found it romantic to be left out of that decision!

I went with now DH and we picked out my engagement ring and wedding band together. My MIL liked mine so much, when FIL bought her a new set on their 50th anniversary, she requested he get something similar to mine.

She gave me that set (as well as her first and second set of rings) years ago. Our kids will have their choice of these sets if they (and future spouses) want to use any of these rings. DD says she probably will want my original set, and DS says he will probably want the 50th anniversary set. I've told them they can always have the stones reset if the future spouses don't like the current settings.
