Do you like Raven (Inspired by the Hilary Duff board)

I find it funny that on the Mariah Carey thread MANY people mentioned how much weight she gained and how "fat" she was. Yet, on the Hilary Duff thread, many people make mention of how "real" Raven is because she isn't skinny. :confused3

Lisa

thats because Mariah wears clothes that do not look good on her. (did you see her on Dick Clarks Rockin New Years Eve?) She wears skimpy out fits that make her look abot 10lbs+ heavier than she is.

We saw her skinny and then fat...but we've never seen Raven skinny only when she was little...but after she matured..we didnt so we only know her as what she is

No doubt Mariah has gained weight but she is now here close to as big as Raven has got.

Raven reminds me of Ann Wilson of Heart and Kirstie Alley. When they were at their largest there was lots of big, straight line, coats. On camera, lots of head shots and shows/videos shot from the chest up.

Both Ann and Kirstie admitted they had a problem.

I don't know how old this picture is, I will admit she's not skinny, but she's not huge. She is a little over weight. At least she wasn't belimic or anything like Lindsey Lohan.

My dd loves Raven! She is top heavy, but that's not anything she can control. As far as weight, she is heavier but not "fat" or obese. At least her head fits her body, lol! I think she's a pretty girl.

How old is she, 19, 20? I think that she has reached a skill level of physical comedy that most actors two to three times her age haven't. She is a great actress. and she is NOT fat or over weight. Unless now the proper weight is the 90s that all other actresses weigh. Shes a lot better roll model for young girls than lindsay lohan is.

Looks all around heavy and unhealthy to me. I think any girl that size should be talked to about her weight. Dangerous role model IMO.

My daugther (age 12) and her friends (also 12 and 13) really like her show-- That's So Raven. I find this show tolerable (the one I really cannot abide is the Suite Life with Zach and Cody--where oh where did Disney casting directors find such awful kid actors?!). Sorry off topic, back to RS. I've always found Raven's acting rather mannered (i.e., one of those actors who works so hard to show you that they are acting) and don't really care for her acting or singing.

As for her weight, I think she could lose a few pounds but I wouldn't say that she is unhealthy because she is overweight.

Just curious, but what type of attitude have you personally witnessed her having? When you were around her, how exactly did she act? How did she display her inflated ego when the two of you were together? Also, other than the Cosby Show, Dr. Doolittle 1 and 2, Princess Diaries and her record contract, what other company would you like for her to be successful at before she can be a role model? As for playing something other than herself, what role should she play before she can be a role mode - an old white man (ie: being the total opposite of a young black girl)? With all of the bad behavior displayed by celebrities as well as the general population, Raven's persona (child star to adult star without teen pregnancy, drug/alcohol abuse, different boyfriend/girlfriend every other month, high school grad, born-again Christian) is certainly on the positive side. And, since a friend of mine works on the set of Raven, I can say that she is a great role model for young girls. If my daughter were to model herself after Raven and accomplished all of the things that she has done, and the only negative thing was an issue with weight control, I'd thank God!

Well said.

My kids love Raven. I consider her a great role model for my daughter. Successful, and real.
Her acting is hilarious. She has great timing, and is good at the physical comedy.
She is also a great singer, and DD has some of her CDs.

The worst thing that could happen to her is she follows the path of MaryKate and Ashley, Nicole Ritchie, Lindsay Lohan, and Hilary Duff and get all sickly skinny and anorexic-looking.

I say, good for her. ::yes::

Cardaway, I think you should post a pic of yourself and let us judge if you would make a positive role model for our youth. ;)

Raven is chubby, but not obese.

I like her.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: Good point.

As a former competitive gymnast, I've spent enough time in the world of eating disorders and the thin obsessed to wish it on anyone else. I'm not saying competitive gymnasts are like that now (I hope they've wised up). In my day, we had a lot to learn about proper, but adequate nutrition, the importance of weight training, etc.

I'll take Raven's body type over sickly thin (i.e the likes of Nicole Richie ). I recently read an article in Elle magazine talking about a large group of actors taking a type of steroid based drug to control their weight and bring about rapid weight loss. Suddenly they are skinny thanks to this drug and then they have a paid nutritionist and personal trainer in toe to dummy up a PR campaign about their supposed fitness plan. Specific names of actors weren't mentioned in the article, but the author said you can often spot them by their lack of muscle tone, emaciated body, etc (effects of the drug).

You need a picture to decide this? ;)

I don't watch Raven too much, but I did see the show she hosted about the Walt Disney World holidays. I could hardly stand watching her. She is too over the top and she has to move CONSTANTLY (Like she is a model who is doing a photo shoot or something). She is very theatrical. I'm sure her show is cute, but she is not a very good host for a show like the one I saw.

All I'm gonna say is no one person is perfect.

DD11 likes her and watches her show. IMO she does over act. She has a fairly decent voice and at least sings songs that has more than two words in it unlike Hillary.

Agreed, esepcially the "rails" and "sticks"... oh wait, I forgot... it's OK to point out their issues. ::yes::

Hi! We all like Raven and her show here. DD's 9 and 11 really like her alot. I think she's extremely talented at what she does - she's amazing at physical comedy which is what her show requires. Of course, my girls also really like Amanda Bynes and Drake and Josh as well - maybe you have to like that sort of humor.

Anyway, we took the girls to see Raven at a 4th of July show last summer. She did a great job. Her music went out and after a few minutes of trying to get it back, she just sang without it and it was absolutely beautiful. That says alot in my book and it really impressed my girls who have lots of theatre experience and know what it's like to be up there with no music.

We enjoy watching Raven - wouldn't call her a role model simply because we use people we know for that! :flower:
