Do you like Raven (Inspired by the Hilary Duff board)

I thought that for a while then I realized that all of the shows on recently were from 2003.

The sweetpea and I really like Raven. We think her show is funny. And yes her acting is over the top, but thats what the show calls for. I also like how she keeps looking her age and doesn't try to over do the makeup/hair/clothes thing. Shes a girl and looks like a girl. She also has been working on a clothes line for non skinny girls with clothes that are still cute. I think she is a good role model for girls to look up to.

I think she's great. Seems like a genuine person, considering she started out on one of the biggest shows on TV, Cosby show. I really like the fact that she's not some stick figure but a real person that girls can look up to.

Don't really care for her. She always has come across to me, in her older years, as a spoiled brat. She doesn't seem very down to earth to me at all.

Granted it is nice to see a not so skinny girl doing well, but I wish she were just as beautiful inside as she is on the out.

ITA - she rubs me the wrong way too, always has, even as early as her Cosby days.

I appreciate that she has not gotten on the band wagon of getting super skinny.

I think Raven's acting is more like slap stick comedy which is lacking in our sitcoms now a days and she also sings well. She was adorable on the Cosby show in the 80's.

Hillary has gotten too skinny and her dental work she had done does not work well with her beautiful face.

She broke her front teeth with a microphone. Poor thing! Those are caps.

I like Raven as a role model for DD-9. I haven't seen her hanging out drinking and partying, wearing skimpy clothes or getting engaged or married every other month like some other teenage stars. Her acting for her show is the same stuff that "Amanda" or "Drake & Josh" do - slapstick like. And to top it all off - she's a born again Christian! Good grief - how much more goody-goody does a kid have to be in order to be a role model?

I like Raven, but not so much her acting. As for her being a role model? I think If I had to choose a teen actress to be a role model to all the little girls I know I would probably choose Raven.

DD8 and I both like Raven - I think she is very funny.

As for her size - I just think she has a body type that is never going to be thin or model perfect - the great thing is she really seems to recognize and accept it too - and has come out with her own clothing line for others like her.

My only comment on Mariah's size was that she also has a certain body type - and for all that money should have designers, etc that put her in clothes that better fit her body type (and I wish were less trashy).

I personally don't like raven, she seems too fake and I have heard she is very demanding on the set (this is from other actors) She (in my opinion) is not a good role model for young girls as she is too young to be that heavy. Bulimia is a health risk for young actresses today, but so is obesity. Raven has a higher risk of stroke, heart disease, high blood pressure because of her weight, and to me, that is something I would not want my child to look up to.

We love Raven!!!! Her show is truly funny and entertaining. I find it to be one of the few shows on TV that we can all watch and laugh at. It's nice to see a child star grown up into a normal person. As for her weight, yes she could stand to lose a couple of pounds, but I'd rather see her the way she is than Nicole Ritchie or one of the Olsen girls. My DD9 absolutely loves her. As for other posts saying she's "demanding", I personally don't see anything wrong with that. I'm demanding also, and find it funny that people view that as a bad thing. I also find it funny that that label seems to be attached to women mostly.

Isn't that ironic? Men that are demanding are perceived as powerful and in control. On the other hand, women are expected to be nice and meek, if not then she is labeled a "witch". ;)

"Oh, snap!" :teeth: :teeth:

Agreed. I don't think it's good for kids to look up to somebody that large. She also is way too young to have that kind of attitude. Her success with Disney has given her an inflated ego IMO. When you do something really successful with another company Raven, call us. When you play something other than yourself, call us.

You are acting as if she's morbidly obese. She's very top heavy and I think that gives the impression that she's heavier than she actually is. I agree that she could lose some weight but attitudes like this contribute to stars becoming bulimic and anorexic. They are bashed by the media even when they gain just a few pounds so they do whatever they can to lose it and sometimes that leads to an eating disorder.

Just curious, but what type of attitude have you personally witnessed her having? When you were around her, how exactly did she act? How did she display her inflated ego when the two of you were together? Also, other than the Cosby Show, Dr. Doolittle 1 and 2, Princess Diaries and her record contract, what other company would you like for her to be successful at before she can be a role model? As for playing something other than herself, what role should she play before she can be a role mode - an old white man (ie: being the total opposite of a young black girl)? With all of the bad behavior displayed by celebrities as well as the general population, Raven's persona (child star to adult star without teen pregnancy, drug/alcohol abuse, different boyfriend/girlfriend every other month, high school grad, born-again Christian) is certainly on the positive side. And, since a friend of mine works on the set of Raven, I can say that she is a great role model for young girls. If my daughter were to model herself after Raven and accomplished all of the things that she has done, and the only negative thing was an issue with weight control, I'd thank God!

I love Raven! I like Hillary Duff too.

My girls love them also!

I'm glad that Raven is comfortable in her own skin and conveys a positive self image. I would rather that my kids learn tolerance, compassion and acceptance of people regardless of their size and shape. I'm not worried about my kids idealizing weight gain because they watch Raven. I'm much more worried about the additives in the foods kids consume every day - from sodium levels to insoluable fats.

Good post. I was thinking the same thing. How would this person know what type of attitude she has. If it is from fan manazines or such, I wouldn't count those as good sources.

Support it if it's a direction you like, deny the credibility if it's the opposite of your feelings aobut the celeb.

I'll be happy to support your position if you can sight where you found this information.

I could sit here and makeup anything about a celebrity. It would be hard to dispute without a specific reference as to where I came by this information.

For instance, I could say that I heard Danny DeVito is a terrible dad. If I don't say where I heard it, how can anyone prove I'm wrong? Of course, I don't really know anything about Danny DeVito. This is just an example of how things get started about celebrities.
