Do you like outdated decor?

I have been living in our current home for 5 years now. I knew we'd want to change a lot. The previous owner went for a french country look and really missed the mark. Every room was painted a different color and the ceilings were a different color too. In the dining room there was 2 different color of green painted stripes. All the drapes have come down. I'm hoping in the near future to get roman shades for my kitchen (greatly needed because of the sun exposure). When we moved here, we went from a 100 square foot home to nearly 7500 square foot home. Our old furniture was just that, old. So it had to be replaced. I like the re-decorating, updating, etc. Keeps it fresh and when I see what it was to what it is now, it makes me happy.

It’s fine. As long as you’re maintaining your house, any decor is fine. Around here, people are buying almost anything immediately.

I currently live in a Victorian home in a historic district. It's a rental, so we can't change anything major. But it was fully redone from the ground up before we moved in, and I really like what they did....the perfect mix of vintage and modern. It's exactly what I would have done myself. So we're honoring the house with the same mix of vintage and modern furnishings. I absolutely adore it, and I could care less about "trends."

I don't like decor period.

Furniture was purchased separately, nothing matched. Things like end tables and such, this piece her grandfather made for us. That piece was my great grandmother's. We got an antique wooden file cabinet from the little town we lived near from my wife's great uncle when he passed which was from the local library. Wife was a descendant of the founders of the town so he had a lot of old stuff from the town. I also had several large blueprint drawings of the town and the old buildings.

We didn't do nick-nacks. We had no "decor". Just stuff collected up over the years and replaced when needed.

I’ve never been into super trendy decor. While the basics remain the same we have changed it up occasionally with a few new accessories. Although mostly quite traditional with some cool antiques sprinkled through.

I grew up putting function over fashion. When I sold the home that my parents bought new and lived in for 53 years it was EXACTLY as built except the flooring in the two bathrooms, kitchen, laundry room and family room had been replaced. Pink tile in one bathroom. Original Westinghouse oven and cooktop in the kitchen, the original Westinghouse dishwasher had been replaced. EVERYTHING worked, and the wall to wall nylon loop carpet looked new. Somehow as a kid, I managed not to destroy anything and everything put in was top quality.
As for me, we did remodel our house after 34 years.....we had lived in it 30 of those years. The carpet was contractor grade, as were the cabinets etc, and after raising two kids and having 5 cats, they were worn out. But we put top quality stuff in, so this will be our only remodel.

I'll take you all back in a time machine to the 60's, when I was a teenager, LOL. We had the orange couches, minimalist end tables, orange/green/gold kitchen decor. I laugh when I see all that "mid'century" furniture that I hated in the 60's. It was the most uncomfortable sofa ever.
Then fast forward to now. We bought a 70's house with original dark paneling in a corner of the LR. I said we would get rid of that first thing! But here we are 17 years later and it's still there, LOL. We haven't changed much and that's ok with me. I don't like change, and I'm also cheap
My husband is a wood worker and he has made a lot of our furniture, and I wouldn't trade any of it for the world! It's beautiful and sturdy. He has made bedroom suits, end tables, TV cabinet, to name a few.
My grown grandkids (20's) don't like it if I say I'm going to change anything. They hate change; at least at Gramma's, I think it's funny but kind of cute too, so I don't change much.
Like most everyone else on here, I keep what I like and what is comfortable.

DW and I had much of our own furniture, but with the passing of our parents our Living Room is furnished with what was my parents Living Furniture, most dating to 1950, with one table showing a manufacturing date of 1923. My parents didn't have a lot of money, but they never cut corners on furniture when they bought it.
Our Family room is furnished with was my wife's mom's Family Room furniture, most dating to the 1960's, and most made by Ethan Allen.

I have officially aged into THIS IS IT.
I would like some big changes, but I don't want to "waste" the money. I am doing a few small changes here and there. Ex: I bought a wrought iron decorative piece on clearance for $9 at Walmart, just spray painted in deep purple. It's going on my LR wall somewhere.

Not really. That's a sign of an old person: old haircut, old interior, etc. It's like walking into a museum only the person living there isn't dead yet.

Anything 'reclaimed' is now the hot trend. Go to your local landfill and reclaim whatever you want.

We just bought a house in a historic district that will be 100 next year, nothing trendy about the place at all lol. We have a mix of old and new and are really just doing what WE like. Definitely NO modern farmhouse decor!

I always wonder who gets to decide what’s outdated and what’s trendy. My house has what I like. Before I moved in I had LVT installed in the common areas and master bedroom. That was my big splurge. My kitchen is oddly decorated (by previous owners), but it’s pretty neutral so I can live with it. My house is eclectic. What’s in it is comfy for me and is pet friendly. I have been downsizing some of my tchotchkes, but it’s slow going. While I adore watching HGTV shows, I have no desire to go all in on farmhouse or boho or whatever.

Who do we please, or try to to impress? I don't like lots of changes and I like what I like. The trends of style don't change what I like and enjoy living with. Yes, I still love our honey hickory cabinets in the kitchen, white in baths, that we chose 20 years ago. We did repaint walls - once - we tend to love earth colors and have a warm, cozy, but light decor with lots of windows. We're happy and that's all that matters.
