Do you like Old Key West?

Sure we like it, just not as much as the other DVC resorts. We do like thats it is cheaper points and always available for shorter notice trips. Do not like a bus to all the parks and the lack of food later at night though.

We LOVE OKW. When using a 1 bdr it's the only place we'll book ...they are so much larger. The first time we stayed in one my DH thought that the 1 bdr at OKW was bigger than his first apartment! My DD and I love to sit out on the balcony and laugh at the golfers too.

Boardwalk is our home and our favorite, but we stayed at OKW last May and really enjoyed it.

I truly don't care for OKW. Although I can appreciate the larger rooms, when I go to Disney I want to feel like I am staying at a Disney resort not a Floridian condo
We love OKW ! Love the quaint village atmosphere. We feel OKW truly feels like a Disney resort. The cute little cut-out Mickey heads on the balcony fence and around the neighborhood......the disney transportation on the grounds.....the fact we can see Illuminations from our balcony.....the gift shop.....Olivia's with all the pictures of Members covering the wall. Don't get all this at a regular FL condo development !? Feels very disney to us ! :earsboy: The large villas are a big PLUS for us, as we usually travel with anywhere from 5-6 people.
We like the Florida-feel of the resort too. We don't go to other places in FL generally (unless day trips) because everyone wants to be close to WDW. My kids still really enjoy going (thankfully) and hoping my grandkids will as well (way down the line of course !). So we're very thankful to have this type of themeing in a WDW resort :flower:

Ummmm, yep. Just a little. :rotfl2:

OKW was the original, the first, it sets the standard for the other DVCs to follow. For all the reasons already listed and the fact that I love to walk and OKW affords me much space in which to do that, it will always be my favorite.

Some of the other DVCs are nice too, not to say they aren't but nothing compares to OKW. :lovestruc

Second trip(just this May)- Not such good luck. We had a studio, the first one we were assigned was way in the back(building 50?) by the main road that goes through Disney property and it was sooooo loud. We heard noise all night, busses, brakes, it was terrible. We then asked to be moved, the front desk CM was very rude and down right sarcastic, we asked for another studio in a quiet location. Went out all day and came back to find out we were assigned a room by the maintenance shed where the laundry carts run by, we were so upset. Went back to the desk again and spoke to a lovely CM who sincerly apologized(not even her fault) then moved us to a another room in a different location, third time was a charm.

The only problem I had was at check-in. We were moving over from PC on Easter Day, checking in at OKW after spending the day at Epcot. By the time we checked in there were no non-smoking rooms, which was a problem for us (allergic). We had to spend the first night in a smoking room (cough, cough!!) that REALLY smelled bad (the bedspread, the curtains, everything reeked!).

We have been owners at OKW since 1993. Since we are now empty nesters, we have only needed a studio the last several years. When I make my reservations I usually request specific buildings (usually the same 3), and request Non-Smoking building with a note attatched that I am allergic to cigarette smoke. Requests are not guarenteed but if it is in wriitng, Member Services does everything they can to accomodate. I only had a problem once when they gave us a handicap room, now if they tell me the room is on the first floor, I ask if it is a handicap room BEFORE I leave the desk.

Another thing we do is to make sure we check in as early in the day as possible. Even if we are going to the parks for the day, we go check in first. I think the earliest you can check in is 6am (you can check with Member Services).

Even if the room is not ready, we leave our luggage and off we go. We have our key cards, so we can call the front desk later in the day or stop back to get our room number. Less hassle, one less thing to worry about.

We love OKW. It's quiet, it's convienent, it's relaxing. We have also stayed at BWV and WL and like both of those too depending on what we are doing on a particular trip.

We've never had an unhelpful CM at OKW but I have been with other people, who have. We were checking in at the same time and they got a doozy. She was down right nasty. I haven't seen that CM around for a while and my friend who had the problem filed a complaint. Some people should be in the back stuffing mailboxes instead of dealing with the public. :smooth:

If you have an unhelpful CM, I would ask for a manager.

We like it so much that we have purchased two contracts there!!!

We love the room size, the walk to DD, the little boat to DD (romantic at night!!!), the grounds, which are lovely to walk around and basically do not give you a bad view anywhere. We love the little "town center" sort of effect near the Hospitality House area, we like being able to park right in front of our unit, we love always hearing a "welcome home", we love the pools, we love sitting on the deck watching the golfers, the wildlife, or looking at the landscaping.

I just returned a few weeks ago from a wonderful 7 day/night stay. I had a 2 bedroom lockoff as I brought my 22 year old "little" sister with me and felt she would want to have her own room but still have access to the main room. She didn't like OKW becuase she felt it was too much like her apartment complex. She prefers the ones attached to an existing hotel--she has stayed only at VWL before this trip. I told her I would most likely stay at OKW in my spring trips and always VWL for my holiday trip.

I love OKW because it's so spread out and feels like I am anywhere but Disney. I don't feel like I am on property because it's just another world the minute the bus drives through the entrance. I enjoy the larger room too. It's nice to spread out! Watching people play golf while eating breakfast is relaxing as well. . .

For the 1st time I didn't have CM Diane from Chicago check me in but she came over to the line when she saw me and told me she was sorry she was not checking in guests as she was working another area from now on. Now that is what I call service! I haven't stayed at OKW since 2001 though I have stopped by to say hi to her and she remembered me! You don't find that level of service at check in at any other DVC resort. I'll miss not having her check me in but at least she still works at OKW.

We really like OKW but we like a lot of the other resorts, too. Each has its own personality. OKW is roomier and we like having two beds when we get a studio. Going in 12 days!!!

OKW is our home resort and we love it! We look forward to every visit and revel in every moment we are there! My only regret is that I can't live there permanently! Wonderful!! :goodvibes
