Do you like not having a landline?

I imagine lots of people have given up their landline and just use their cellphones.

I don't think we can because we have a package with the Cable company and the landline is included. But I need to check into that.

Actually I hate not having a landline. It is just too expensive to have a landline.

We got rid of our landline more than 5 years ago. Don't miss it at all- no more telemarketer calls or monthly bill for a phone we never used. All 3 of us have our own cellphones.

I guess we have a compromise- we have a cell phone that is our "home phone" (and then Dh, DS and I each have cell phones, eg that we carry with us.)

When we dropped the landline, I had them transfer the local phone # we've had for 20 years, to the home cell phone. People don't realize it's not a landline and don't think much of it when we're "not home" to answer it. Less pressure than giving out my personal cell number.

Have never looked back or regretted it. We never used it so it just made me mad every time I passed the phone and knew I was spending $30/month for it to sit there.

Seriously considering doing *precisely* the same thing. I think I could add an additional line to our cell phone service for about $5-$10/mo, and dropping the landline would save me $35/mo + taxes and fees.

Actually thinking about taking it one step further and migrating it to Google Voice and setting up an in-house VOIP server. Already have the computer set up with a different phone number, so its mostly having the guts to get off the dime and do it.

We haven't had a landline since last century. I don't see the need for one and don't miss it at all. We use our (dumb) cells for all calls and never go over on minutes so why should I have an extra useless bill.

I charge mine everyday or night. I also live in a development in a town if something is that bad I can run outside to my neighbors within seconds.

I'm not sure about 911 locating I think each person would need to verify that with their local ems.

I don't miss having a landline at all. We use cell phones for everything, so we're pretty much in constant contact.

That's a really great idea! I was thinking about ditching my cell phone and going VOIP but this would work for us too.

We moved to VOIP via Nettalk. www.nettalk.com $65 for the equipment and 1 year of service and then $30 a year after. We had to tweak some settings on the router to make sure the phone gets priority when it comes to bandwidth, but no one can tell I am not on a traditional landline.

I prefer landline. We have a business and cell phones can drop many calls. So I will keep mine.

One reason we have a landline is for our security system (ADT). We were told we could not use our cell numbers for some odd reason :confused3

Also, we have a sheathing under our roof, that doesn't allow us to get service through our cellphones, so we unfortunately have to use the landline.

I don't miss it like I thought I would have. I really had a hard time getting rid of our landline, just because it's what I grew up with and just seemed normal and we have kids and I was a little concerned with not having a landline, but it really hasn't been a big deal at all. Honestly, by the time we got rid of it the only people that called our landline were telemarketers and it was really just a waste of money.

It's been 4 years since we've had a landline and I don't think we've missed it once.

We gave up our landline six years ago, as we are among the countries with the cheapest mobile phone plans in the world and a landline didn't make financial sense anymore.
I don't feel a difference, just maybe that each of us gets only calls intended to them personally, that's nice.

I don't know how it works in the US but we have a dedicated mobile emergency number that works everywhere in the EU. I've had to call it three times already and every time, the nearest police department answered, so they had no problem locating me.

We still have our landline. The cost is wrapped up in our cable/internet package and is very minimal.

We were seriously considering dropping it a year or so ago, but an emergency changed that. I was babysitting my best friend's 5 month old daughter when she had a grand mal seizure. I was very grateful to have the landline for 911; I like the security of it.

Our phone is actually the old fashioned kind - connected to the wall with a cord :rotfl:

No landline since the 90s, don't miss it.
