I've only had ribs, hot dogs and stuff like that, Never tasted the rest, what does it taste like, what is brisket?

I like to make bbq chicken wings, and I grill stuff.

Pulled pork sandwich with cole slaw on the top - - heaven!!

I don't like the mustard based sauce either, more of a sweet sauce guy.

I like bbq as much as the person, but with all due respect to Mr Deuce, you seem to have almost an obsession with smoked meat. ;)

Yes, and happily so! :)

ABSOLUTELY LOVE BAR-B-QUE!!!!! My favorite is probably pork steaks, but I love pulled pork, BBQ chicken and all the other yummy stuff!! I also like all the sides that go WITH the BBQ--like baked beans, cole slaw, potato salad. You know, the stuff with no fat or calories!!!

ECU Pirates - I'm with you 100%. Wilburs, in Goldsboro, is my favorite, but some of the local stuff is pretty good too.

Oh my....we have to stop at Wilburs when we make trips to Beaufort. It is the best! :cool1:
I also like Prissy Pollys in Kernersville. You can choose between eastern (my favorite) or Lexington style. Ok...now I'm starving!

I saw an episode of Alton Brown's Good Eats a couple years ago where he made a home made smoker out of clay pots and an electric hot plate. I proceeded to make it as well and used hickory to smoke a pork butt. Man did it come out great and I've had 2 summer-time Pork butt parties at our house and everyone LOVED the pork. Wife has given me the approval to graduate to a real smoker now!

from ckmommy

Alton Browns Smoker:

2 Very large terra cotta pots
1 electric hot plate
cake pan (will not ever be able to bake a cake again)
Grate from a grill take fits inside pot
Wood

Buy 2 vry large terra cotta pots. You will need to find a grill grate that fits securly inside(at the top of) one of these pots. Put one pot on the ground, on top of 3 small pieces of 2x4's (to the air circulating). In the bottom of this pot put the electric hot plate (Wal-mart--$10). Thread plug through hole at the bottom use extention cord to reach power source. Put cake pan on top of hot plate-- fill with small pieces of amoking wood. Turn hot plate on med-med high. Put on grill grate, then meat. Invert the other pot, put on top. Put meat thermometer in hole at top to know what temp you are cooking at. You will need to experment with the hot plate and what temp it will need to be set at. We did have one fire because it was too high.

Poll coming.

I'm talking about slow smoked brisket, pulled pork. smoked chicken, ribs...... NOT talking about grilled foods.

Here's a thread I started but lots of DISer's contributed to.

PD, Gotta say you are obsessed by BBQ! :rotfl: I only wish it was magical as well as delicious the more you eat the less you weigh. OMG I did not read the whole thread before I posted it seems someone else had the same observation.

Do not worry PD being addicted to smoked meats is no where near as bad as smoking ANYTHING!!

Yes I am, though what brought this thread on was someone else's thread about Smokey Bones BBQ restuarant.

I have that thread you started bookmarked, Deuce. I bought a smoker this past summer after reading that and have done beef, pork, and chicken. I still need to work on the beef, but the chicken (I have done pieces and Beer Can Chicken) and the pork have been simply outstanding.

So, Papa Deuce - you are an inspiration.

Love it! Only complaint is the lack of really good BBQ restaurants in my area. Most are just okay.

I love BBQ! Don't get to eat it enough.

I don't think I've ever had really good BBQ. Ribs, and I liked those.

Most stuff we have on the grill is chicken, steak, fish...but not BBQ.

Or am I way off-base here? Does BBQ include all grilling, or just things with BBQ sauce?? :rotfl:

Don't laugh. :teeth:

DH is also addicted to BBQ :teeth:

I enjoy it, but he lives for the stuff. We are a "mixed marriage" as he will only eat sliced and I like chopped. :rotfl:

Ribs are my favorite - dd2's also :goodvibes

We wear it well, huh? LOL

(and no, dd didn't manage to finish her meal without getting sauce on her clothes. That's part of the experience ;) )

Laurie :)

We attend a real "cracker" party every year, and one of the guests brought a real smoker last time. Ribs and chicken...talk about G-ooo-D! DS LOVES barbequed backribs, while DH & I are pulled pork sandwich fans. We had wonderful beef B-B-Q when we were skiing at Steamboat one year, but we still prefer pork.

You're getting very predictable...everytime you run out of the mundane topics you post, you throw one up about barbecue...time to get some new material.

Not always correct. . BBQ involves cooking with wood. Hence, the smoked flavor. People misnamed grills as BBQ Grills. If it is smoked it basically is BBQ, Though they just call salmon smoked, but that is becasue it is cold smoked rather than hot smoked. BBQ is smoked at about 225 degrees. Cold smoked items get smoked at 85 - 100 degrees.

Very interesting. Not surprised that people in the NW would use the term wrong on a regular basis.

So when I fire up my propane fueled Char Broil "BBQ" I'm not doing "BBQ" but only "grilling"?

Ya can't debate me here. This is one area where I am an expert, as I have been thisclose to opening a BBQ joint. I cook whole hogs regularly. I've read literally 50 books on BBQ. I have 3 BBQ awards, the highest being 2nd place for brisket.

There's why there are clashes. What was the point of that? My first post was a question. Had the question mark and everything.
