Do you lick your fingers?

The people who are arguing for being able to blow their noses at the table are coming off deliberately obtuse and arguing only for the sake of arguing.

Come on, this behavior is vile. Even the wait staff at 50s Prime Time nag people for poor manners, so this is not new to you. Don't play dumb, you know for a fact that it's rude. So, if you're blowing your nose at the table next to me and it's making me retch up my dinner because it is disgusting, should I move tables away from you? No. Take some personal responsibility for your hygiene and go blow your nose in the restroom like an adult. I can't believe this even needs to be said.

I completely agree.

A little name calling

annoyingly insensitive or slow to understand.
"he wondered if the doctor was being deliberately obtuse"
synonyms: stupid, slow-witted, slow, dull-witted, unintelligent, ignorant, simpleminded, witless.

One should be able to sit at the table and gently blow their nose without bothering other people.

Another question for those that lick their fingers at a restaurant:

Do you eat with your elbows on the table?

no, I have trouble balancing the food between my elbows. and even if I can manage that, I can't qutie bring my elbows up to my mouth.;)

I'm curious... if the sound of someone blowing their nose makes you retch, wouldn't it also make you retch if you're in the bathroom at the same time they're blowing their nose? :confused3

One might argue that retching up your food in a restaurant is rude and disgusting. But, but...it's a bodily function that can't necessarily be controlled you say. Much like farting.

And round and round we go...

The difference is that she is not eating a meal in the bathroom. Some things are not meant to do at a table when people are eating. It's like clipping your toenails in public. Those people probably don't like being told that it's disgusting either.

Do you know that NYC recently began hanging posters in the subways to inform riders to stop clipping their nails on the trains:scared1: That many people did not know it is rude/disgusting to clip their nails in a public place that an ad campaign has been created.

That's pretty sad that people have no idea it is wrong to do. Their parents did not teach them. And I am sure they will continue to "clip" in public.

But, I am sure people here will say "Mind your own business. Just don't look at them":sad2:

That's sad that posters are necessary to tell people how to act like decent human beings in public. And no doubt the nail clippers don't care what other people think and would just tell people to look the other way. I get that not everybody is taught certain things by their parents. My parents didn't teach me certain things. But once a person finds out the behavior is rude, they should care and stop doing it. You can't make people care though.

It's frustrating, isn't it? People will continue to blow their nose while people eat. Or pick their teeth at a table. Or pass gas loudly at a restaurant.

They will do this out of pure ignorance. Nobody is going to change their ways. In their minds, they will do what they want and not care about manners. And they will teach their children to do the same. Soon we will be living in an absolutely mannerless society.

Are you referring to this poster:

If so, it was not posters put up by "NYC" (the MTA). It was an art exhibit/campaign by artist Jason Shelowitz (and illegal...where does that fall on the manners scale?)

You left out the fact that the word obtuse is an adjective, and name-calling is a noun, therefore, I was not name-calling. If you're going to split hairs and argue semantics...

I'm all for etiquette and proper manners, but enjoying hot wings out at a restaurant, there's going to be plenty of nose blowing/wiping (and finger licking!) lol. Just can't be helped. :confused3 Your nose runs. I usually just swipe with a napkin and keep it under control that way, but not always. If you're staring at me enough to notice, then that's YOUR problem, not mine. Pay attention to your dinner partner, not everyone else and what they're doing/wearing/saying, etc.

I cannot imagine someone having to keep getting up to blow their nose in the privacy of the restroom or to wash up every time they wipe their nose with a napkin. Talk about DISTRACTING.

If I were to retch at the sound or sight of someone blowing their nose at a dinner table, I'd probably avoid eating out all together given the various sounds and sights that occur in public these days.

Two things:

1. This thread is kinda gross.
2. If someone doesn't have a problem with a mailman pooping in the bushes then surely they won't have a problem with table nose blowing.

I think table nose blowing at the table is is gross. Licking fingers is fine for finger foods (ribs, corn, cheetos, steak, yogurt) but doing make slurping sounds while doing it. Also, when eating BBQ, I've noticed that the napkin sticks to my fingers if I don't lick them first so lick I must!

Gross.

People should not blow their nose while eating at the table. PERIOD. Not up for discussion. EVER.

I agree that this is unsanitary and inappropriate, but it is minor compared to some of the things you see at WDW. On another DIS board someone said that the mother at the table next to her was changing her baby's dirty diaper on the chair right next to her. (at quick serve )
