Do you let neighbors and friends "borrow" your stuff?

Our neighbors are cool we borrow things from each other all the time and watch each other kids and have meals together all the time. Heck we even might be going to Disney together for our next trip!

The both (Dh and DW) were over her again today to see if they like my ellipical before they buy their own. It was my idea, I don't think they will really like it for them and I hate to see them spend that much money and not be happy.

I have lost so much stuff I cannot even begin to count it all up. Among the dearly departed possessions are: a 6 man inflatable raft (that got destroyed when my friend “borrowed” it), a sleeping bag, a really nice eight person tent that I had only used once, a film camera, a Haitian Drum, and too many books and DVDs to name. I loaned out my first digital camera and my camcorder to a “friend” when they went to Disneyland. It took a full 18 months to get those items back from her! By the time I got the digital camera back, I swear to God, it was obsolete. Ugh! I had used it perhaps twice.

I hate it when people ask if they can borrow stuff. I hate to say no because that just seems mean to me, but I also hate to spend hundreds of bucks on a nice tent or a camera, only to use it once and never see it again! At this point, I pretty much only loan books or movies out and about half the time, I never see them again.

My DH has a policy that he will not loan anything out. Ever.

If for some reason he agrees to help someone out, he will bring his whatever over and help the person with the task then he will bring his toys home.

Didn't get that when we were first married. I was a 'sharer'. Learned pretty quickly when things either did not come back or came back broken. Now I am on board with his no share program.
