We have dusk to dawn sensors on the lights by our front door, back door, garage and motion floods in the back. A well lit house is a safer house.
Our lights have a voltaic sensor. When the sun goes down, they turn on, when the sun comes up, they turn off.
We leave ours on. It keeps the front entrance illuminated. I've an intruder is trying to gain access through the front door (such as busting out my sidelight), he or she will not have the advantage of a "cover of darkness" to help.
This is how I feelNo it is a waste of electricity,

I have noticed that several of the houses on my street seem to leave the front porch light on all night. We never do unless we forget to turn it off. We have motion lights at the corners of the house so if anyone walks up those lights click on automatically.
Just curious - why would you want your front porch light on all night?
We live in a gated community and we have no choice on if they are on or off. The lights turn on at a certain time each night & turn off at a certain time each morning. There is no switch inside to turn it on or off. I wish we had a choice because it bugs me that the light is just on all night long. Talk about a waste of money!
