Do you leave your front porch light on all night?

We have a mercury light on our barn but our porch light goes out when DH goes to bed.

No. It is only on when someone will be out past dark and is turned off immediately after we get home. :)

We never leave ours on. If a burglar wants in he/she will first break the light and then do what they are going to do.

We have dusk to dawn sensors on the lights by our front door, back door, garage and motion floods in the back. A well lit house is a safer house.

:thumbsup2

Exactly. We have small solar lights that come on when it gets dark so there is some light around the house all the time (we live in the woods, so it would be pitch dark otherwise) and motion sensor lights on all sides of the house that come on when anything gets within about 20 feet of the house. More often than not it is a deer or our cat setting them off, but at least I know when something is approaching my house. And it's a handy way to know when Boo (the cat) wants to come in from her hunting excursions, too.

When we lived in the city we left the front porch light all night. We also had a mercury vapor flood that lit up the whole back yard, and that one came on at dusk (sensor) and stayed on all night also. That was put in after I went out to go work a graveyard shift one night and found a nice little group of crackheads doing their do behind our garage as I opened the door to drive out. :scared1: We probably would have made that one a motion sensor if any of the neighbor's bedrooms faced the rear of the house, but none did. Nobody was worried about me lighting up their bathroom and kitchen all night.

We rarely ever even turn on our front porch light. When we do it is for a party or trick or treating. The street light is right out front of our house though so that has something to do with it.

We only turn on our side door light when we will be home after dark and it only stays on all night is someone forgets to turn it off.

No, the lights go off outside after the dog goes out for the last time at about 11 o'clock. My neighbors in the back keep their light on all night, every night and the thing is blinding.

Our lights have a voltaic sensor. When the sun goes down, they turn on, when the sun comes up, they turn off.

Same with us, but we keep the 3 lights outside our garage lit all night. The front porch lights (3) would be really bright so we don't keep those lit (they are on a sensor too).

I tend to turn the from main porch lights off when going to bed. But there is one light that remains on during the night for security seasons.

We leave ours on. It keeps the front entrance illuminated. I've an intruder is trying to gain access through the front door (such as busting out my sidelight), he or she will not have the advantage of a "cover of darkness" to help.

In the middle of the night, nobody is really going to be watching your house. My DH won't leave the light on all night. He says that the light just provides the person trying to break in, some light to work with.

I don't know about your neighborhood. But, in ours, nobody really pays attention to somebody standing at somebody else's door.

We live in a gated community and we have no choice on if they are on or off. The lights turn on at a certain time each night & turn off at a certain time each morning. There is no switch inside to turn it on or off. I wish we had a choice because it bugs me that the light is just on all night long. Talk about a waste of money!

No it is a waste of electricity,
This is how I feel

This is how DH feels.

So if he goes to bed last the light is on and if I go to bed last it is off :)

its mostly for security reasons where we live.... if there is a house in total darkness... it seems to stand out more ....

I have noticed that several of the houses on my street seem to leave the front porch light on all night. We never do unless we forget to turn it off. We have motion lights at the corners of the house so if anyone walks up those lights click on automatically.

Just curious - why would you want your front porch light on all night?

Stays on dusk to dawn, on a sensor! ;)
I like it on, makes me feel more secure:rotfl:

Our actual porch light is off, but I have a ton of flood lights that are on every night. We live in the sticks and I feel better with them on.

Hum, replace the light bulb with a burned out light bulb - LOL.

we leave it on a lot of times, its a high efficiency bulb, as to the why...a security measure maybe, habit.
