Do you leave a tip for housekeeping\?

In the US we always leave $1 per person per day for the maids at a Disney hotel, is it normal to do this in France and if so how much is normal. Off to the DLH in 5 days and am panicking about lots of last minute things now!

and they dont make towel animals in france like they do in WDW

I don't know if the same applies to housekeeping, but waiters in France are paid the proper going rate (at least national minimum) and are not dependant on tips for a living, unlike waiting staff in the US. They do not expect a tip every time, but it is always very welcome. I would guess with strong union laws in France, the same probably applies to all staff.

So - it comes down to how you feel -if you have had good service that you want to reward then tip, but don't do it because you feel obliged to. JMHO.

The guy at DLH who got our bags out of check actually put his palm out to jack for a tip - a sure fire way not to get one from us!!

We tipped for table service meals, but only housekeeping at the end of the trip, unlike in the US where we do everyday.

We also tipped the guy who brought our champagne up.

We tipped at the table service meals - about 10% roughly, tipped at the end of our room stay and also tipped when he had waiter service at the bar in the SL

I don't think many people can tip housekeeping in France simply because we've always had trouble getting the chamber staff to take their envelopes, even though they are clearly addressed to them in French, and when we've been around and given the envelope to them in person they've seemed extremely surprised.

I like to leave a tip each day ~ it's not a very pleasant job and when I used to do chambermaiding in my school holidays I was always very grateful for any tips I received! I left either €2 or €3 euros a day depending on what change I had.

When we were there in June we left all our change at the end of our stay (was over 10 Euros), but we didn't leave anything last time as we didn't actually have any Euros left

For the housekeeping staff (day and turndown) at Hotel New York, my tip is WEAR DEODERANT TO PREVENT BO!!!!!! so that guests don't from the incredibly offensive smell

or are you talking about a tip in money, not a verbal tip. Well we did leave 2 euros a day, but really don't feel we had to, not like in the US (we don't tip housekeeping in Australia). I always did, $5 daily when in the US at Disneyland and WDW.

When we last went, we spelt out the word "merci" with all the change that we had left over, on our final morning. I think it came to about 20euros, but as we stayed for 6 nights, I thought this amount was OK.

I've never left a tip at the Hotel

I always tip in restuarants etc but it never crossed my mind to tip the housekeeping staff!!

I've never tipped either. Having thought about it properly I might do from now on, although having paid a fortune to stay in an over-priced Disney hotel it isn't the first thing on my mind!

I always leave a tip for housekeeping, as mentioned though, in the past have found it's not always taken unless it's very clearly marked for them.
Would have to add that I didn't think the staff at Sequoia deserved one, but left it anyway.
