Just curious as I know it's no longer PC to do so. I love the sun, but I do use sunscreen. To me, there is nothing more relaxing than floating around my pool on a hot summer day and we've had plenty of them this year. It honestly is one of my favorite all-time things to do and totally relaxes me. The tan is a bonus.;)

How 'bout you?

Oh yeah! I lay out. I use sunscreen too, just a 15 on my body and 30 on my face, I still get the tan though.

I am all about floating around the pool, reading a good book, or taking a nap. I also like to look for disney characters in the clouds. ;)

No, I don't. There were only 2 summers that I laid out- after 4th grade and after 7th grade. Now I'm 52 and my derm said because I wasn't a sun worshiper my skin is like that of a woman in her late 30's.

I do, but for whatever reason my face never gets a tan hahaha, as for the rest of me....well you could tell I got my bronze on haha.

Nope. I'm a proud sun shut-in in the summer. The only laying out I do is when I'm at the World.

Yes, I do.... within reason, responsibly!!!!

When you have kids, are out and about, etc.. I fully believe that it helps 100% to get some base-tan, using sunsceen.... My fair skin getting burnt just because I may end up getting a bit of sun one day would NOT be a good thing..... I might look like this...

I don't believe for one minute that we should be so deathly scared to walk out our door.... Sunshine does wonders for my mood.... And I shouldn't even have to mention Vitamin D (which I tend to run on the low side).

But, laying out for hours..... even with sunscreen.... now that's scary! :sad2:

Deliberately laying out to relax, I never seem to find the time but I do love to with a good book and a tall cold glass. I'm outside a good part of the day working with animals and doing heavy work for a few hours. I rather have to deal with the sun (with caution) then be outside dawn/dusk with the mosquitos we have here....so its always something...just the lesser of 2 evils.

Just have to add though I think you chose a statement to open with that puzzles me...not PC ? Why would it be or not be? Its all about personal choice right?

Nope. I'm the one at the beach/pool in long sleeves and the big hat. I can wear SPF 50+ and still burn in a matter of minutes. Not laying out isn't a political statement... It's a matter of comfort. ;)

I'll make this my first post on the Disney board! I'm also a sensible sun bather. I've read about the many health benefits of sunshine produced vitamin D3 - mood enhancement, cancer, dental, & heart disease prevention mainly - and so make it a point to get some sunshine each day, when possible of course. I have type 3 skin so depending on the time of the year, 10 to 20 minutes in the sun is all I need to avoid a sun burn and stay healthy. If I stay in the summer sun longer than 10 to 20 minutes then I rub on sun screen.

That's what I meant too

Well Welcome to the Dis Bilberry :yay: some day you will look back & say "what was my first post?" I can't for the life of me remember....anyway just wanted to say Hi & Welcome you

Yes and no. We go swimming a LOT. I stay tan, but I spend more time in the water than literally laying out; but it still boils down to a lot of sun exposure. I definately lather up when we go to the pool; I use 30 or 50spf depending on what I have with me- but I still tan.... I'm naturally dark skinned anyway...

Me too. I had a few bad sunburns as a child--back in the day, they didn't have sunscreen, just Coppertone lotion(which was almost useless.) I'm so fair-skinned that I just chose not to go out in the sun without a tshirt on over my bathing suit. And here I am 53 years old and I have beautiful skin. My grandmother was also very fair and in her day, they were pretty modest about skin exposure. She had the most beautiful, clear skin with few wrinkles. So I hope I'm going to take after her.

Most of the time I am laying under an umbrella when at the beach or pool with a high spf as well.

Not anymore. 30 something years ago, while I was in the military in Mississippi, I got a terrible case of scabies and I've got way too many scars on my arms and legs.

If I tan now, I resemble swiss cheese.

I am EXACTLY like you....Now that the kids are a little older, it is soooo much fun to do. For years I was Mrs. Hawkeyes, and run in/out to do things. I just love these perfect sunny days, and that is what I do.:)

Since I'm typically in shorts and a short-sleeved shirt, I get enough sun just going about my business. When at the pool, I go sit in the shade between dips. Most of the sunbathers here are either visitors or snowbirds who don't spend the entire year here. It's a lot like tourists being the only ones who pay money to visit a reptile farm... :upsidedow

It seems that many people around here think laying out in the sun is akin to poisoning your body--that's why I mentioned that it was not PC.

My kids are older now (22 and 20) and my time is more or less my own now so I can totally appreciate being able to float around and tan--it really is a luxury. Despite being in the sun in the summertime, my skin is also in great condition. I do take care of it and moisturize twice as much after sunning.

Sometimes, and almost always not to excess. I tan easily, and I have to say that my legs look better tanned.

When I was a kid (teen) I worshipped the sun. Didn't worship me in return. Finally in my 30;s I realized I'm NEVER gonna do more than burn and peel. For some reason and I think its maybe early menopause or something, I have no tolerance for being in the direct sunlight in one spot. Gotta keep moving. Air conditioning would be better though! :rotfl:

Im a lifeguard and I tan. I love the feel of the sun on my skin and how it warms me to the bone. I feel healthier and happier when I tan. I love the out doors. I do use an SPF30 after 30min of un-protected sun exposer. I wear a visor when Im out and a higher spf on my face. I use moisturizers twice a day.

I love having nice tan legs, and arms. I am 35 and look younger than I am. I think genetics have a lot to do with if you get wrikles and how you age. I know hard working farm women who are in thier 80's and look much younger and they were out in the sun most of thier lives.
