Do you lay out in the sun?

I don't "lay" in the sun, but I like to be out in it. I'll sit in the yard and read or float around the pool. I make sure to use sunscreen...30 SPF and 50 on my face.

I find I do burn easier now than when I was younger too so I always use the sunscreen.

I am 52..get told I look younger than my age a lot.. not all that many wrinkles going on and I don't think my skin is all that damaged from being outside and I used to lay out when I was a teen using baby oil as my sun tan lotion :scared1:

I don't lay out any more, I did when I was young. Now, it's like I walk out the door and burst into flames. After liberally applying SPF 5000 repeatedly, I do love the feel of the sun on me. I just wish I could even out and have some color for my wedding. Without looking like a lobster.

when I was younger I spent every available minute laying out in the sun. I burned far too often and never wore sunscreen. We spent our summers camping at the beach and I got way more than m fair share. I am likely doomed to skin cancer due to all the burns I got as a kid.

Not anymore! I now wear Sunscreen always and limit time outside between 10 and 2. Now my "sunbathing" is limited to 5 minute intervals when I put the dogs outside and wait for them. Feels good, but I won't do what I used to do.:)

:wizard:

To me, there is nothing more relaxing than floating around my pool on a hot summer day.
How 'bout you?

I don't have a pool, but I love going to the beach! This has been a superb year for that. I love breathing the ocean air, swimming in the cold water on a hot day, and getting my dose of vitamin D! (I wear sunscreen) The sun is healthy, natural, and good for me. :)

I like laying out by the pool. The feel of the sun while I'm laying on a lounge chair is so relaxing. I'm responsible though, I wear SPF 80.

Not anymore. 30 something years ago, while I was in the military in Mississippi, I got a terrible case of scabies and I've got way too many scars on my arms and legs.
If I tan now, I resemble swiss cheese.

I have vitiligo, mainly on my hand and legs, and this does not stop my from tanning. It is what it is and I don't hide those spots away.

2 weeks ago, while at the pool, I made a new friend, do to having vitiligo. There was a little girl there with it as well and when she saw me, she got so excited that there was someone else with white patches. She and her mom sat and we talked for almost an hour. She had never meet anyone else with it, had only seen pictures. When they left, we exchanged phone number and e-mail addresses, just in case she ever wanted to talk.

:thumbsup2

Only when I'm on vacation. If I go on a cruise, I will spend almost the full day if there is a sea day, laying out at the pool with a book. I'm a rebel like that I guess :rotfl:

Laying on the beach is my all-time favorite pasttime:thumbsup2 It rates right up there with cocktails and apps on a deck, lobster and steamers in the back yard with great friends, fishing for bass and blues and grilling em up that afternoon, and watching the kids fly around on the tube from the back of the boat. I love summer and this one is turning out stellar:)

At age 17, when I moved to Florida in 1992--I made a deliberate decision to not layout for the intent of tanning ever again. If you ever catch me on a lounging chair, it is simply so I can relax. I don't like the sun beating down on me out of comfort. Only when I have gotten into my 30s did I realize the cancer reasons to not do that. For me, that is just a healthy result of an act that I avoid for reasons of comfort.

I don't begrudge anyone who enjoys it--I just hope for their sake that they are careful. I just don't see the joy in it. Much like people who don't Get the joy in massages.

I do not, not because it's not PC, but because I'm fair skinned, allergic to ultraviolets (I get hives inside of the burn if it's a severe sunburn), prone to burn very quickly, and I almost never tan I just get darker freckles. I had dozens of 2nd-3rd degree burns as a child.

If I knew then what I know now, I would have kept vampire hours or worn a Burqua.

NO WAY. First of all, I'm fair/freckled...2nd I've become photo-sensitive due to autoimmune disease (get rashes and fevers from sun) AND my dad had melanoma. I'm 42 and at my niece's college graduation 3 people mistook me for a graduate:goodvibes...so I am SO glad I have shunned the sun!

I am fine getting whatever sun exposure comes from being out and about.

I will say that last monday I spent 8 hours going down the Illinois River on a raft (after spending three hours on the lake the day before). I had on a swimsuit, I also had a hat, tshirt and shorts. I used an entire can of 70+ sunscreen plus some 55+ lotion. I reapplied that stuff everytime we stopped to swim, rest or eat. I put it on in the raft every single hour whether I was wet on not. The others on my trip thought I was kidding when I said I was going to be vigilant. My very fair goddaughter also reapplied often (not as much as me) and had several burnt places.

My arm freckles got darker, my nose and cheeks were slightly pink and I had one red area on my back at the U of my bathing suit. Everyone else with or with sunscreen got burnt.

I don't care that I looked like a dork with my oversized clothes and constant spraying. I could wear clothes the next day. :rotfl:

I love sitting in the sun and reading a good book. I could acre less if I tan, I just like to feel the sun on my skin...relaxes me. I do burn easily, so use an spf 70 on my face and 50 everywhere else.

Speaking of sunscreens, what do those of you who use them like for your face? Lately, everything I try winds up stinging my eyes, even the ones made for faces.

Nope, too dangerous to do on purpose. I get sun when I am out and about with my dd, like at the park, but we wear hats, sunglasses and spf 50 sunscreen. I also try to avoid the peak hours of sun, like around noon time.

I know of waaaaaaaaaaaaay too many young people who are dealing with skin cancer and it is just not somthing I want to gamble with. It is simply not worth the risk to me personally.

Not for a long time. When I was around 12 I got a horrible burn, and sick from the sun. I wear sunscreen and have been doing so for decades.

I used Aveeno (no scent, hypoallerginic, etc) and didn't have any trouble with eyes stinging.

I've always found laying around in the sun to be the most excruciatingly boring activity ever. Even when I was a teen and everyone was soaking up the rays using a combo of baby oil and iodine, I couldn't bear it for more than about 10 minutes. I love to read but have a hard time doing it with the glare. It's too hot to sleep. So I could lie there and think about how hot it is or go sit in the shade. :lmao: I choose shade.

Nope..my grandfather has skin cancer...I've seen what he goes thru and since i am fair skinned, I am not taking a chance!! Plus I know some people who are sun worshippers and I swear they look 100 years old already!!:lmao:
