I wouldn't consider Blink 182 emo at all (nor Green Day). That's just pop. Pop punk if you must.

If you haven't seen it, check out their video on You Tube of Welcome to the Black Parade. Intense, moving, amazing! My DD12 and DH47 also love them.

My 10yodd knows the words by heart and showed me the video.
They want the CD for Christmas.

GoofieRuthie said:My daughter loves EMO guys. For fun, go to YouTube or google and type in, " I must be EMO". It's a funny little song poking fun at EMO kids. My daughter is the one that showed me. It will give you a generic defintion of what EMO is. BTW, EMO is short for "emotional".
No way!! I'm 38 and have been dressing like this guy since college in the early 1990's...who knew it was back in again?!? Can't wait to tell my wife that I'm not as dorky as she thinks I am!!Sparx said:

Must pass this on to my 15yodd for laughs.HomeSweetDisney said:Agreed. I don't consider them emo. Actually one of the only current "emo" bands I really like, if we must use labels here, is Bright Eyes. I think Conor Oberst's lyrics are pretty amazing. I can't stand My Chemical Romance. Or Fall Out Boy. My friends say I am a music snobI say I just know what I do and don't like

But to whoever mentioned The Promise Ring I give you a! I love, love, love them. They were lost in the fathoms of music before I got old enough to start developing my own music taste but I got into them about 5 years ago. Along with Fugazi, Sunny Day Real Estate, Husker Du, Rites of Spring, and Weezer. Although with Weezer I don't like their new stuff but Pinkerton which was released sometime in the early 90's, is one of my all time favorite albums. I also love Jimmy Eat World's old stuff. Clarity is one of the best c.d.'s made. Ever.
GoofieRuthie said:The one that I'm thinking of is definitely R. That's why I didn't put a link. To quote a verse in the song..."Emo is one step below transvestite".![]()
My daughter thinks the guys that wear eyeliner and girls pants are SOOO hot. I don't know how she categorizes herself though. She kind has her own wacky style. The tackier and more mismatched, the more she likes it. She has recently started cutting her own hair. Her bangs are in her eyes and 100 different lengths. It drives me nuts! But I'm trying to let her express herself. As long as she stays the happy go lucky straight A student that she is, I'm won't complain.

Depending on which generation you are from...
Robert Plant wore pants so tight I swear they were painted on--there was nothing left to the imagination. Roger Daltry and Jimi Hendrix were right behind him. David Bowie had the tight pants and eyeliner, and lots of it. And Freddie Mercury cornered the market in tight pants and makeup.
Moving forward a bit, Prince wore more lace and makeup than the average female. David Lee Roth certainly left nothing to the imagination in those backless tight pants. And remember Joe Elliot's tight white pants with NOTHING on underneath?
Duran Duran, the Fixx, and INXS had their share of tight pants and eyeliner in their day.
How could we forget Vince Neil's bleach blonde hair, eyeliner, spandex and lacey tops? Following right behind were the members of Warrant and Poison. And I haven't even mentioned the original glam band, the New York Dolls.
Yeah, things changed a bit when Soundgarden and Nirvana were all the rage, but the grunge scene was really pretty short lived in the big picture.
Face it, since almost the beginning of rock and roll, tight pants (ie girls pants) and makeup has gone hand-in-hand with "Cool."
