Do you know anyone named Disney?

My daughter goes to middle school with a girl named Disney. She's only been to our house once and I asked her if her family were big Disney fans. She said no, her mom just liked the name. :confused3 The kids call her Nee.

How about Mickey? It could be a girl or a boy's name...or course the middle name doesn't HAVE to be mouse... :rotfl:

I have a student this year who is named "Sidney"

Her mom said she is named after Disney...the letters are just shuffled. I think this is a nice alternative.

I really wanted to name my last child Sydney (if it had been a girl)...but he came out a Benjamin LOL :woohoo:

I say if you like the name, who cares what everybody else thinks. A lot of people in my family didn't want me to name my kids the names they have and I told them (if they had kids) you got to name you kid what you wanted to, so let me name mine. I don't think she would get a lot of teasing, but that's just me I would have never thought of dizzy disney. You gotta do what you wanna do and don't worry about what others think

my concern in nameing a little girl disney would'nt so much be the teasing she might encounter as a youngster but the potential for teasing a teen.

maybe it's just me and the fact i remember some realy obsene and vile comments and nicknames some of the boys in jr. and sr. high made about/gave to developing girls-but i can't help but think having the first name of 'disney' might be an opening to some realy awful remarks:sad2: :guilty:

specificaly i'm thinking along the lines of remarks about 'her magic kingdom', 'she offers extended magical hours/early entry hours', 'i've got a season pass to disney-and i love her rides' and of course some cruel references regarding 'matterhorn mountains':sad2: :sad2:

i think disney is a cute,pretty, happy name for a lil girl...love elias also....a friend at work has 3 daughter's 'ariel' belle,adella paige { born at 8 mos andmom only found out 4 days before that she was preg,and they had said 5 mos! she showed them...hehe she send her mom home ot watch the little mermaid to see what the sisters names were and chose adella} and #3 is melodie rose ,another surprise baby! tubes tied for 2 years then comes mel! ariel named her for ariel & eric daughter in little mermaid 2...we plan on getting ariel pix for them on our trip in a few weeks...they have never been....! this is our 1st ...i have 7 grandchildren and naming them was so much fun for the parents and me too! set 1-elliana { elli} blaze { yes his dada is a fire/flames fan} _set 2- kensleigh & gracie [ twins] & chloe the baby...set 3 caroline { our angle baby } jackson & avery { avery is a girl}

My daughters name is Briar~Rose Aurora Lillian.
When we go to WDW or DL we are always asked if that is her real name, and if we want her name put on a hat we have to show proof!!!!!!
If you want to call your daughter Disney go for it, I would not have used that name as I wanted one that told everyone she really was a princess.

Sidney is actually our dog's name, so we can't use it for our daughter.

That is too cool! How old is your daughter and how does she feel about her name?

Everyone always has an opinion about baby names! No matter what name you pick there will always be someone who has something negative to say about it. That's actually a BIG reason why we kept DS's name a secret until after he was born. I fell in love with his name and didn't want to see or hear any negative reactions. Mind you, the name we chose was a traditional name - yet still, there's always someone who makes a face or mentions some terror child they once knew by that name, etc. You see where I'm going?
Basically, I think you should follow your heart.
Good Luck & Congrats

I've always felt this way too. No one would ever hear me breathe a hint of a baby name when I'm pregnant. I don't want to discuss ideas or hear criticisms, so I avoided the topic at all costs with my three kids. I figure people are less likely to say how much they hate it after the name has already been given to the child (at least within earshot)-- and if they do have criticism everyone else thinks they're being rude. ;)

We also did not share or illicit opinions on our son's name. No one except my parents knew his name until he was born, and they only knew the first because we kept the middle a secret (Brady Kennedy).

I see nothing wrong with naming your child after something you love. My husband  the movie JAWS, and suggested Brody after Captain Brody. I didn't care for Brody, but immediately said Brady and it stuck! So it was a good compromise.

That being said, I think Disney makes a lovely middle name, but I would go with something a little more subtle for a first name. Kids are horribly cruel, I think there is so much ammo you can give them with a name like Disney.

of course it is your decision, but I wouldn't give her Disney as a first name. It would be an OK middle name, but I'm sure she'd get teased, or at least some strange looks, and I think its a really loaded name to carry around for a lifetime.

But Disney isn't an unusual name. It's a very famous person's last name and an extremely famous International Landmark. Everyone who ever hears your child's name will know that you named her after Mom/Dad's favorite place. And what's worse is your child will know daily were she was concieved. Kinda gross IMHO.

Ron Howard named his kids (maybe their middle names) from where they were concieved.

Hi, B. I love Aislinn's name so much! You know that you are having a boy though, so it won't matter ;)

:goodvibes last time we were at disney there was a toddler running around and it was her name - so was way cute

Dont u find if u see or know someone with the name u like it reinforces it where as the grotty kids u know from down the street with that name u like put u off it!:rotfl:

LOL! It's funny how people think. When I read what your son's name was, my first thought was that you must be a fan of the New England Patriot's.

I have to agree with those who feel it's better suited to a middle name. I think it's hard enough to be a kid as it is without having an "odd" first name. What if it backfires causes her to HATE Disney instead? :scared1:

I for one like Disney as a name (first or middle), but my opinion doesn't matter--only yours does!

As for the she'll get teased argument, believe me if kids want to pick on someone they will pick on anything, you don't need a "different" name for that.

My name is Brandy and I can't tell you how many times I have been called by some other alcohol name or had Brandy you're a fine girl sung to me. I survived and actually like having a little bit different name. To me being one out of the 5 Jennys in my class would have been worse (not to say anything is wrong with the name Jenny--just that it is a very popular name for girls my age).

My kids also have different names, not made up, just not totally popular.

Best wishes on your new addition--and deciding on a name.

I:

:rotfl2: My husband seriously did not want to use the name because of the Tom Brady and Brady Quinn. He is a Miami Dolphins fan so he hates the Pats and he also hates Notre Dame football with a passion. I refused to let that sway my opinion on a perfectly good name and refused to go to Brody because of that.

I just replied this on another thread...lol.
A guy came into my friends apt complex where she leases and his first birth given name was Disney. His parents met, and probably conceived him at Disney! Thats dedication... LOL

I was contemplating naming my son Walton...not only cuz it's his dads middle name.. but I was thinking WALT... woohoo :)
