Do you know anyone named Disney?

I think you should spell it Dyzknee. ;)

We named our oldest DD after the place where we met so I say go for it. I think it great to have a name that means something to you.

I agree I worry about her being teased. My maiden name (last name) was Sloan and I was teased so badly at times. I know its a bit of a weird last name but come on, if they can tease about that they can definitely tease someone named Disney. I would laugh sometimes to show the people that they werent getting to me. Maybe use that as a middle name. They may say her name is dizzy or refer her to chartoon characters, etc....

There are so many unusual names these days that i don't think anyone would bat an eye at the name Disney. I, however, wouldn't use it because I wouldn't want the inevitable nickname of Dizzy, Dissy, or even Diz.

I also like the idea of "Lillian" or "Marie" better than "Disney". I think the concept is cute, but I just couldn't imaging calling a little girl that everyday. I guess I just don't like the "diz" sound.

What I did before I had my kids was I tried yelling their full names across the house like I was hollering to them. I also like to think about them being in school and there name getting called on the loudspeaker. All that comes to my mind is kids making fun of her who don't even know her. Sometimes a name looks a lot better on paper than it actually sounds.

By the way, a suggestion I have for a Disney-related first or middle name is Marceline, after the town in MO where Walt lived for a few years. Not my first choice for a name, but just a thought. It's a little old fashioned, but with the popularity of "Madeline" I suppose you could make it work.

Marceline is actually already taken in my family. Good suggestion, though.

You should call your kids what ever you want to - you obviously still like the name after 4 years.

Disney is obviously in at the mo - look at Halle Berry - In the Uk it's been reported she's called her daughter Nahla Ariela - I assume the first sounds like Lion King and the 2nd Little Mermaid?

I like it! I think Disney for a girl would be great! A boy? IDK. God bless! And yes, I have an unusual name- Angel- it would be fine- but I get alot of mail addressed to Mr. and that crap I throw away! LOL

I know a lady with the first name of Dooder...seriously...DOODER.

I think only you can make the choice...I personally wouldn't name my daughter Disney...but I like it that you want to. I wanted something different for my daughter and named her Elsa...

To each her own! :) And congrats!!!!!!

Ah, you beat me to it........I just read that's what Halle Berry named her daughter. Talk about Disney Themed name.......That sure is one!

My 2 DD's are big Disney fans so I asked them what they thought about the first name Disney for a girl. Their immediate reaction was they wouldn't want to be named Disney because they would get teased by the kids at school. They did agree that it was ok for a middle name though since most kids don't know each other's middle names.

My DD had the same reaction. My hesitation is that it shortens to "Diz." I wouldn't want to be called that. As a middle name, I think it would be great. Good luck!

to each there own.... i for one love it i have a very normal name(amie) and so do my DDs as do my parents but my brothers kids all have diff. names and my oldest DN already says he wants a normal name hes 8.

as for disney sa a name i love but like others say a middle name would be best. but only u know whats in ur heart. follow ur heart u can never go wrong. good luck to ya

Disney Claire sounded cute when I first read it. For about a minute. I couldn't imagine calling my child Disney. I love Claire, though. We got a new puppy and I suggested Disney for the dogs name. DH quickly shot that one down, and that was just the dog.

My dd is 4 and the names I had picked out for her were Disney Claire and Jackson Walt. People were so mean to me (except my parents and bros and sisters) about it. They were like "why would you want to name your daughter after a theme park".

Everyone always has an opinion about baby names! No matter what name you pick there will always be someone who has something negative to say about it. That's actually a BIG reason why we kept DS's name a secret until after he was born. I fell in love with his name and didn't want to see or hear any negative reactions. Mind you, the name we chose was a traditional name - yet still, there's always someone who makes a face or mentions some terror child they once knew by that name, etc. You see where I'm going?
Basically, I think you should follow your heart.
Good Luck & Congrats

I have a student this year who is named "Sidney"

Her mom said she is named after Disney...the letters are just shuffled. I think this is a nice alternative.

I'm voting with the Disney as a middle name coalition. I would really consider not just what your child's name is when she is a baby, but when she is a 40 year old woman. It's just not that cute then  .

Sometimes unusual names help people professionally but I think in most instances REALLY unusual names work against a person. Think of how much harder a MAN attorney named Precious had to work than the guy sitting next to him in Torts! Not worth it IMHO.
