Do you know anybody like this?

Yup, I know someone just like this. Her 'stuff' is always better or more expensive than someone else's. She also doesn't seem to have a lot of empathy for anyone else - her problems are worse, her family's triumphs are greater, illnesses are worse, etc. It's really all about her.

I have acquaintances like that but luckily none of my friends measure their worth by their possessions. It is pretty obvious when someone does this kind of thing ("are you still there, sorry, the blue tooth in the new BMW acts up some times") and it speaks of their character.

The day I start to define myself by my possessions I hope someone does me the favor of putting 2 quietly in the back of my head.

I call up a good friend of mine and ask her how her Christmas was. For the next 45 minutes she proceeds to tell me about the great gifts she got...

I pretty much got stuck right there. I don't want to hear any adult talk to me about ANY one subject for 45 minutes unless I am paying them to teach me something and we're promised a bathroom break within the hour.

I used to have a friend like this too. She moved away, and even though I miss her, I get kind of anxious if I know I'll be seeing her. I always make sure I look my best, because I know she's comparing things in her mind. :confused3
It's hard to explain, because she has MANY redeeming qualities, but I don't think the close friendship could have continued for the "competition" reason alone.

I know someone like this, not so much the part about not letting me get a word in, but the "top of the line", best of everything nonsense.
At first I thought maybe I was jealous but then I realized that I wasn't, I just don't want to hear about it ALL the time! If I find a product that I like I will certainly tell friends about it but it is sooo unbecoming to brag.
It has gotten to the point where I don't even believe her sometimes because it just goes on and on and on.

(BTW...this person is also someone who thinks everyone wants to date her...even though she is married. You can't talk about a mutual male acquaintance without her saying how they wanted to get with her at one time or another).
