Do you know any Olympians?

With the Olympics fast approaching I thought this would be a fun thread. Do you know anyone who has competed (or will compete) at the Olympic Games?

A very close friend of my aunt won a silver medal in rowing in 1968. His daughter was a rower in 1996 and 2000. Both were torchbearers in 2000 too.

A girl I was friendly with at school was a legitimate contender for the Rio Paralympics in equestrian, but unfortunately her horse got injured.

I helped out for 2 summers a formal Olympian Jeep Davis, he won 3 Golds 56-60, and played briefly in the NFL, he died a few years ago but was a real classy man who worked with kids

I went to high school and was friends with a guy named Mike Herbert from Rogers, Ark.

He was a kayaker in the Seoul and Barcelona games.

He also once out-wrestled a bear.

Townley Haas, a classmate of DS's, is swimming the 200 Free in Rio. Last year DH and I had dinner with his parents at a Class Happy Hour, and we talked about Olympic possibilities. We are so excited for Townley!

I went high school with a Japanese swimmer name Hiroko Nagasaki. She came to the US to train, and eventually was on scholarship at Cal and later BYU. She finished 4th and 6th in a couple of events in LA. Her finishes in Seoul weren't as high, but that may have been due to the competition without a boycott.

I've been a big fan of the Cal volleyball team, and former setter Carli Lloyd just made the roster for the Olympics. I didn't know her that well, but I'd certainly met her many times. It's a small fan base. She's also going be the second Carli Lloyd at the Olympics this year.

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend knows this guy who knows this kid who's going with a girl who is going to be in the Olympics -- but she passed out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious. So I may not know somebody who's going to be an Olympian.

Born and raised in Sacramento, home of Arden Hills Swim Club and world known coach Sherm Chavoor. Mark Spitz, Debbie Meyer and Mike Burton are among his local Olympic success stories. I can't list how many local events in the last 45 years that Mark and Debbie have been at that I attended. My kids went to Debbie's swim school here. Run into Ruthie Bolton a lot through my work, as well as Eric Heiden.

Very exciting! I would say I'd cheer for him, but when it comes to swimming I'm a true blue Aussie! His trial time is only 0.03 seconds behind Fraser-Holmes and McEvoy (it was a dead heat) so it looks like it'll be an exciting race!

We had a lady coming into work back home regularly who had won 4 gold track and field medals at the '48 London Olympics. She was really nice to everyone and people left her mostly alone though most of us knew who she was(because she was really famous)
