Nobody addicted to meth. DF's friend is completly addicted to pot though. It runs his life. He graduated with a masters in education, and got and lost a teaching job a few weeks after he got it as a result of a drug test. I just wanted to scream MORON!!!

DF says if he's still doing it when he's 30 they will have an intervention. I think they should do it now. But the guy is respectful and he has never done that around us. But because of it, he never has any money. It's ridiculous.

You would be surprised how many professionals use pot. Most people view pot the same as cigarettes. Until it is legalized, it is illegal to possess it -- no matter what scientific argument for its non-harmful effects you buy into.

A judge on the Court of Criminal Appeals told me a story once about a guy that applied for a law clerk's position. For some reason, the topic of pot use came up. The law student told the judge "well, I wouldn't let my pot use interfere with my job." The learned judge replied, "You do realize that this is the Court of Criminal Appeals."

Besides the teeth, the sores and leasions are so horrible. Like others have said, the weight loss factor could be very tempting, but my goodness, they were saying addiction sets in almost immediately. With my personality, one time would be all it took.

The State of Tennessee used to have a great dramatization of the toll of meth over time on a person on the state's meth free website ... I just tried to get to it-- but it's not there. It was about 5 years ago -- it was quite disturbing.

There was a sweet young waitress at a restaurant on the campus where I work who seemed to be looking sicker and sicker. She finally disappeared and I found out from her coworker that she was a meth addict. What a waste.

Meth isn't the only drug that will cause these changes in people. As a pharm. tech I've seen too much Oxycontin abuse - they have the same look. It goes further than looks though, these folks live for it and nothing else, cost is not an issue but if the insurance will pick it up, all the better . I don't understand why people will do this to themselves.

Yeah -- what I don't understand is where they keep getting the scrips for it. I've had 2 c-sections, 2 root canals and I was just in a car accident and I've never had it prescribed. Shoot -- for the 1 root canal -the endodontist just told me to take OTC Tylenol.

I get that they are making meth -- but I don't understand the scrips for oxycontin.

Don't forget weight loss. My lord! If the other side effects weren't so bad, I would be on it myself just for the amount of weight you can lose with it.

My neighbor where I live now was(is) in it bad.

I seen her one day after not having seen her for about a month and a half and I noticed she had lost a ton of weight,a few days later I was able to talk to her and she said she was "dieting" with no pills or exercise and had just started eating 5 or 6 times a day and the weight came off.

Her DH had been deployed and she was staying in a nearby city because she had gotten a job there and was looking for an apartment close to the job.

She had asked one of her friends to look after her 3 dogs and I only seen the woman come by once--the puppies had gotten out of the yard so I took them in and was feeding them because of it.

About 2 days later the MPs showed up and posted a notice on her door about the dogs and 2 days later came back because they had not heard from her and she hadn't come home.

They entered the house and took the dogs(the one inside and the 2 I had) and posted an MP outside for about 3 days but she didn't return.

About a week later she came home and I told her what I knew and she told me it was about the friend not caring for the animals the way she was supposed to and that she had given up the puppies but kept her older dog and asked if I would care for it while she got everything settled---I said sure and started caring for the dog.

The house was disgusting--dog pee and poop everywhere--it was dried and thick--dog hair covered everything to include the kitchen counters---the house was a dump except for the kitchen table which was spotless.

She moved everything out in one night with her family helping her and never paid me what she said she was going to.

About 4 days later the sheriffs dept(?) showed up to arrest her and knocked on my door asking if I knew her or when she would be home--I gave them the phone number I had for her and told them the city she was supposedly moving to and that's when they told me what the charges were...

3 counts of animal cruelty
Possesion of a controlled substance
Possesion of paraphenalia
Manufacturing a controlled substance

And a couple more that I don't remember because when he said "Manufacturing" my brain got all foggy

So I looked at him and said "Manufacturing?" and he said "yes maam she had a Meth lab in the house"

I knew her weight loss was to good to be true but the fact that people knew what was going on in the house I share a wall with and didn't think it was important to tell me made me mad

I haven't seen hide nor hair of her since then but DH just got deployed to the same place as her husband so I wonder if he will see him and if he will have anything to say about it

I just moved from Meth Central in this state (Alaska). I watched small little community with very little crime turn into a place where I wouldn't open the door for a 14 year old without a coat in -20 weather for fear of a home invasion. We even started to see meth *****s hanging out at the local shoprite. Once I was accosted by two 45 year old ladies in front of a closed pawn shop trying desparately to sell me some gold jewelry. It looked like everything they owned of any value was in the back of their truck and they were extremely upset that the pawn shop was closed. They demanded I open it which was a bit odd because I was leaving the restaurant next door and had nothing to do with the pawn shop. These woman had sores all over their faces and we're extremely keyed up and beligerant. It was a bit scary but I just got in my car and drove away. Then before we moved we went to the grocery store at 3:00 am and after walking through the store I turned to DH and said if you want to see a methhead in this town simply go grocery shopping at 3:00 am or go to Walmart at midnight. My plumber told me in November that he'd lost 4 plumbers and 1 secretary to Meth in a 3 month period. He said he watched good solid families with family businesses disolve in the wake of meth addiction. It's so sad and scary. I'm glad I moved.

I don't know any personally (not that I'm aware of anyway), but I do know it's rampant in our area. In fact, not too long ago there was a meth lab bust in an apartment on top of a local bar. Imagine if that had blown up. What exactly is the high all about?

Yes, my sister. She lost everything-her husband, her children and all of her friends. She lost a baby-miscarried at five months in the bathroom of her home. She ended up on the street (in a town in which she'd lived her whole life) and occasionally in shelters. She's struggled for years with this. She's been in and out of meth clinics and knows all the "talk." She knows the right thing to say to keep people away and make them think she's okay. She became distant and standoffish, hostile. She had extreme ups and downs. She would call people late at night-11, 12 or 1am talking loudly and wildly about anything, then she'd have an extreme "downer" where she would be slow in her speech and movements.


She claims to be clean, now, but we don't believe her. It's not the first time she's said that. She lies so much that she doesn't know how to tell the truth.

According to my sister, meth is very easy to get if you know the right people, and these people are easy to find.

She's also been addicted (most recently) to pain killers and was involved in buying and selling prescription drugs. She was into crack cocaine for several months, too.

One of the meth clinics in town was in a hotel room. It was a nice hotel-not a motor inn and took awhile before the managers got wind of the problem.

It's very sad.

My brother was.

A few years ago he met a girl and moved to a different state with her (he was 18, she was 17). She got him started. I knew something was up, because he started getting lesions all over his face (I knew people in HS that did heroin and they got the same thing).

He finally moved back home and admitted to using meth. He did it a few more times while home, but then stopped. (He stopped on his own).

He ended up losing ALL his teeth. Most of them rotted, so last year he had to have them all pulled. He is suppose to get his dentures at some point.

It's such a horrible drug.
