Do you hold high standards for yourself?

I

I actually have a few backup plans. But, New York state schools are actually more then doubling their tution next year:sad2: Without room and board the cheapest school will have about $14,000 tuition compared to the $6,000 this year:sad2:

Real world experince is everything, but SOMETIMES, jobs dont look at experience they look at education. My uncle has owned his two different businessed and he is now a manager for UPS. He has applied for numerous promotions (a few he got) but most times he gets beat out by people because he didnt go to college.

BTW, I dont think Penn State is a good comparing school to use because its looked at really highly and I consider it an awesome school, much better then most of New York's state schools

Oh, well I just used PSU because it's my local school and it's the only state school that was coming to mind.

Not always, I think it depends on your job. My dad didn't go to college, but he had the most experience in his field. He's the highest ranked in his division at his job. He works for a water conditioning company, testing water and providing solutions to fix the problem.

What if one does not interview as well as the other? Are they automatically going to pick the one who went to Harvard?
To prove my point is George W. Bush went to Yale for his undergrad studies, he said he was "average" yet he got into Harvard for his masters. Please do not tell me his family and the legacy that went with it somehow played a part of him getting into Harvard and Yale. I'm not saying he's not smart enough to but "average" students don't just somehow get into those schools.

They both give the same interview and everything. They are entirely equal except the school they went to. I think the harvard student would be picked in this case

But thats my opinion

I dont think two people could possibly be entirely equal.

My dream college is Oxford. That's my first choice. I don't have a backup plan yet. But I am going to make one.

People aren't picked by the school they attended. They are picked on how well qualified they are for the job. The person who didn't get into Harvard could just as easily get the job before the Harvard graduate.

On the other hand, our wonderful president Barack Obama got into Harvard law all by himself. It's irrelevant, just had to bring it up. ;)

$14,000 is still much much MUCH cheaper than Harvard tuition.

Oh, and sure, jobs like people with a degree -- but again, they don't care where they got that degree.

Actually, on a semi-unrelated note, they'll probably pick the minority. Affirmitive action and all.

thats very true

as for the $14,000. yeah, its a lot cheaper then harvard but I still think thats a lot of money for the "cheapest" option:rolleyes: but thats just the world we live in

oh well

Nope, that's not the cheapest option. Some state schools cost between 6,000-11,000 for out-of-state kids.

Research your options; you don't have to stay in NY!

And there are scholarships too!!! I'm on one right now, and it has been the biggest blessing. There are stipulations to it like maintaining a GPA, so you definitely have to work for it.

But apply for them! You never know how much money you can receive without taking out loans. :)

definitely.
i get 14K a year from MTSU and my tuition is only 5K, so guess how much i get back. (:

you know, ivy league is really sorta not important. this is the way i look at it. i'll use my college as an example.

Aeronotics:
my school has the best aeronautics program in the world. people from all over the world come to it. it is the best financed, most advanced, newest program in the world.

Psychology: (my field)
my school has the best psychology department in the southern united states.

show me an Ivy League that is better than that.

and show me an ivy league that is better than Tennessee Tech University's engineering program. let me tell you, there isn't one.

both of those schools are >10K a year, and they're both within driving distance of my house and they're both better than ivy leagues that cost ten times as much as they do.

now how can you say that an ivy league is better just because, when i've shown you two tennessee colleges that are the best of the best? really. if i wanted to, i could pick out state schools that have hte best of every program, putting harvard to shame.

the cold hard fact is that having HARVARD on a diploma will 9 times out of 10 get you the job over anyone else.
Regardless of your quality of education versus theirs.

Just like a last name will get you into Harvard over anyone else who may be more qualified.

It's the world we live in.

I always strive to do my best. As for school I don't really look at the letter grade given, but knowing I gave my best effort is good enough for me.

I've always put a lot of pressure on myself, and I've had a lot put on me as well. My mom has always been really bad about making me be borderline perfect in school. Even in elementary, when I brought home anything below a 90, it wasn't good enough.

So, with that being said, I expect myself to do well. If it's not above 93, I think that I wasted my time. I don't usually study, because I don't have to. My schedule for school this year almost killed me with all of the junior and senior level classes I took.

I wish that I didn't care as much, but I know that I'll always be the perfectionist.
