Do you/have you ever 'known' any Olympic athletes??

My fiance was a sports writer when we lived in Maryland, so we know Michael Phelps from the last summer Olympics and Kimmie Meissner from this Olympics. We also know Jennie Thompson's brother. Anyone else know any Olympians well?

Our next door neighbour (while I was growing up) was on the Canadian women's swimming medley relay team in the 1984 Olympic Summer Games in 1984 -- brought home a bronze medal.

I knew Sharon Wichman who one a gold and silver in swimming in 68. She swam at the same swimclub we went to in Fort Wayne, IN. Also met Mark Spitz on several occassions as he used to visit IU swim team members (after he had been gone a few years) in the dorm I lived in.

I grew up in the same town as Bonnie Blair; her family often sat next to mine in church.

I didn't personally know her, but Dominique Dawes, an Olympic gymnast, trained at the same gym that my DD took gymnastics. We got to see her training many times.

My cousin's daughter swam in Australia when she was 18 years old. One of the Olympic "photos of the day" was of her diving in.

My old next door neighbors were a group of skaters from the University of Delaware. One of the girls was an ice dancer named Anjelika Krylova that won silver in the last Olympics for Russia and another guy skated for Greece. They were really nice.

I went to school with Elizabeth Punsalan (ice dancer). She was in 8th grade and I was in 1st.

My high school track coach made the team while I was in school. Ran the mile and had a GREAT time LOL!

Yes, I know Keith Brantley who was formerly one of our Olympic marathon runners. We were both at a running camp together back in the 80's.

I knew Guard Young from the last summer Olympics gymnastic team. Bart Conner is also from my hometown.

Went up the chairlift w/Travis Mayer once at Holiday Valley. Sure, we talked ... but he wouldn't know me from Adam ...anyway ... I can say that I skied w/an Olympic athlete b/c we both skied off the lift together, right?!!

My husband knows a guy named Ronnie Villone who was in..I think Barcelona-he played baseball, not even sure if it was a medal sport, but I know he was there playing.
He just got traded to the Yankees.

Francine Fox who won a broze medal in kayak in the 60's we were classmates in junior high.
Pauline Betz Addie tennis a long long time ago. She was my teniis instructor in high school.

I live right down from where Michael trained .My father also taught 2 Judo students that made it in 1 female 1 male.We had many of the students from Japan come to our dojo when I was small.

When I was a kid my mother signed me up for diving lessons with a bronze medalist. That was a horrible 1/2 hour.

I knew almost all of the 2004 Olympic Water Polo team, and was very good friends with two of the coaches.

I also went to high school with one of the gymnasts from the gold medal '96 team

My parents live around the corner from Justin Hewish, the Archer who won Gold a few olympics back and he trained Gina Davis...I saw him at a few parties here and there.

My Cousin, who I have only met once was on the UK Water Polo team.

Just a few weeks back pulling into the Mickey and Friends Parking Structure at Disneyland I was behind a car with an Olympic vanity plate that said "3 GOLDS" so when we pulled into our spot I asked about the plate. The woman driving had 3 golds from softball.

My uncle's stepson tried out for the US volleyball team in the last olympics. He didn't make it though

Remember Tracy Caulkins? She was a big swimmer back in the early 80s. Anyway, she grew up at my swim club and was on the swim team there. She was a few years older than me and I do remember her being a good swimmer, but at that time I didn't get the importance of her being in the Olympics.
