Do you have to watch all the harry potter movies to appreciate the WWHP?

We watched the first movie last night, and am wondering if we would appreciate the park more if we watch all the movies, or if just watching the first one will put things in enough context for us to enjoy it?

i have never read a potter book.
tried to watch two of the movies but never got past an hour of them.

i still enjoyed the parry hotter section of ioa.

you can figure out what it is all about without having the background information. the sets and designs are awesome in that part of ioa.

you'll hear enough chatter about that section by the crowds there.

there are some homies that have never watched MIB, jaws, ET, Shrek, cinderella, snow white, great movie ride, tower of terror, etc and still can understand the basics to those rides, and enjoy them.

Or Terminator or The Mummy or Song of the South or Haunted Mansion (haha)

You'll still like the potter section as it is a fun area to hang out in. You might not understand all the decorations and such but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy yourself. Have a butterbeer while you stand in line for Ollivanders and Honeydukes and all will be well.

If you do want to watch movies, but not all 7 (soon to be 8), the park is set between the 3rd movie and the 4th movie. Flight of the Hippogryph is from the 3rd movie mostly, and Dragon's Challenge is the 4th movie. The 3rd movie is also where we first see Hogsmeade, so if you only watch one I would definitely say the 3rd movie.

But as the others have said, you can definitely going without :thumbsup2

I've never read any of the books or watched any of the movies and enjoyed my time there. My kids are big Potter fans though so a lot of my amusement came from their enjoyment.

I think it's entirely possible to have fun going "blind" and maybe your trip will inspire you to have a book/movie marathon! :thumbsup2

Not a fan of the movies or books but loved the themeing of WWOHP and don't think you have to watch the movies to enjoy it :thumbsup2

Good to know! I've read all the books, but it has been years (read the last one the day it came out), and I'm finally watching the movies with the kids in anticipation of the trip next week. We watched the 3rd one last night, and will watch the 4th one tonight I hope. I have all of them, just never watched them, and now I can't find the 7th one! Have torn the house up, but it is no where to be found. We will hopefully see the first 6 before we leave, though:D.

No you don't need to watch the movies to enjoy the park. My dad had a blast and he's never read or saw the movies.

I will say though that the readers get more bang out of seeing the park than I think only movie watchers do. There are many hidden "book only" items throughout the park.

And what about Twister? That movie was probably a two-star at best, I bet very few people in the attraction's audience have actually seen the movie.

To me, that's the one where you really do need to have seen it, if only to put Helen Hunt's high-waisted 90s pants into perspective. :)

We aren't a fan. I have seen bits and pieces of the movies when they are on TV. We enjoyed the area. It was fun to look at the windows. We didn't do Olivanders since we had no interest in a wand. I know from the movie that the wand picks you. The owls were neat. I enjoyed the frozen butter beer.

I am sure if I was a fan I would appreciate the area even more then I did.

I've read all the books once. I've only seen the first movie. I loved every aspect of WWOHP.

I think you can appreciate it as a magical fantasy world no matter what. If you're interested in getting a deeper look at the theme of the area the books are a better place to start than the movies. The films have to skip over a lot of the intricacies of the story to fit the time limits. But as long as you grasp the basic concept of witches and wizards with magical powers you'll have a good time. And the butterbeer is delicious even blindfolded.
