This is a mom asking a question here... does a college student working part time have to join the union? (I believe the position is classified as Attractions - guest relations at the sports complex)

Per their Collective Bargaining Agreements, all Walt Disney Parks and Resorts U.S., Inc. Cast Members employed at the Disneyland Resort in California are required to join and maintain in good standing membership with the labour union if one covers their position. Failure to do so will result in termination.

At the Walt Disney World Resort, in accordance with the constitution of the State of Florida, Cast Members are not required to join a labour union, even if one covers their position. Cast Members in unionised areas wishing to join a labour union should communicate with the Shop Steward or Union Representative covering their work area.

In addition, it should be noted that most non-Cultural Representative Disney Internships & Programs Participants at the Walt Disney World Resort are not covered under the company's Collective Bargaining Agreements, and may not join a labour union in their area even if they desire to do so.

Out of curiosity, do you know which roles are unionized in WDW?

The vast, overwhelming majority of operational roles (Operations, Food & Beverage, Merchandise, etc.) at the Walt Disney World Resort are unionised. The specific union differs depending on role, but they do all fall under the same Collective Bargaining Agreement.

In addition, Collective Bargaining Agreements are in place with the Actor's Equity Association as well as various trade-based labour unions.

All new part-time and full time CMs will sit through a 20 min union presentation before their Traditions class. This is a great opportunity to sign-up, if interested, but as mentioned it is optional!!!
