If so what do you have covering them?

I am SO tired of the vertical blind look. I need to access these doors everyday, theyre in my dining room and they will get a lot of use. I need something else to cover them.

Does anyone have any good ideas for me?

Oh the wall is coffee coloured.

Don't have them now, but did have them. We had pull drapes. Got a rod through JC Penney that looked like the wood rod with round finials on the end, but it was really metal and had the mechanism for the pull drapes. Then I got crazy and bought my own fabric and made the drapes! :earseek:

It ended up looking nice.

We had the vertical shades also and hated them, they fell apart, dried out. We've not got drapes on the windows, close them over in the evening, open during the day. An added benefit is they do a much better job in keeping the room warm in the evening than the vertical shades did

Nothing. We have a nice backyard, surrounded by trees as far as the eye can see, adn the doors open out onto a porch going down intot the back yard. Why block all that great outdoors? You have these big, beautiful glass doors, why cover them?

One room has drapes.
The two in the family room have blinds ....the mini horizontal ones.

I hated the vertical ones when we had them.

We have vertical blinds too, hate them. They're cheap and half the time they're falling off the hook things. If we have the screen open, the wind blows the blinds around and they rattle.

One day, I'm going to bite the bullet and buy drapes, but I think I'll need to get someone in to measure for me - if I try and handle this myself, it will end up looking like a mess. ;)

well in our case it gets to be 110 here in the summer and we NEED something we can close to block out the heat. Besides with as much as I love my neighbour out back I dont want her looking into the house. KWIM? LOL

I use decorative roller shades and a cornice from Smith and Noble. smithandnoble.com.

They roll up completely when I want light or passage, then come all the way down to floor for shade or privacy. The cornice gives them a nice finished look. My only regret: I went completely neutral with the roller shades; shoulda gone a little darker, with more texture.

Because at night it's nothing but a big black hole and I just know that there is a killer out there with a knife! :rotfl2: I've got an active imagination or I'm a tad paranoid - take your pick. But at night I had to have those sliders covered!! (Don't ask me how that makes the killer with the knife magically disappear).

I am SO with you!

two words:

replace 'em...

with French doors (well, five words)

They have fabric shades that are pleated or cellular. You can get two narrower shades mounted on the same headrail so you can raise/lower one side and not the other. You can also get them with a top down function where you can pull them down to let a little light in while still leaving most of the window covered.

They're not cheap, but they're very nice to have and the cellular shades are great insulators.

Oh I would LOVE to!

Im just not sure thats in the budget KWIM?

We have fabric vertical shades. That's the best option that I was able to find for us, and it works pretty well. We let our dog out that door, and it's nice because we don't have to open the blinds to let him out. He can just go in between the blinds, and since they're soft, they don't pop off. They also don't make that noise that the plastic or aluminum ones make when they hit each other.

Our blinds did look better before we had kids. They have weights in the bottom that keep them hanging down nicely and keep them from getting tangled up, but we had to take those out because they weren't sealed up in the fabric. The kids can get them out, and they're sharp. The blinds do get caught up in each other sometimes, but it only takes a second to shake them and straighten them out.

You sound like me!! LOL

Our sunroom has three.

I also was not a big fan of verticals and moved into a new house that had a door wall. I found something called pleated verticals. They are verticals that have a sheer drape attached to them. You have the function of a vertical with it but it looks like a drapery. You almost can't tell that there are verticals under the sheer. I totally love them! Hope I describe it OK?!

Call Pella right now!!!!

They sell sliding and french inswing doors with shades or blinds between the glass. They don't get dirty, the kids and dogs can't jump on them.

We just replaced our sliders with French doors with the micro blinds in between 2 panes of glass, I LOVE THEM!!! We didn't go with Pella though, we bought the no-name brand at Home Depot because they were a lot less.

It is so nice to not have those vertical blinds or drapes hanging there. I just had some custom valances made for them and it looks great, and you still have total privacy when you want it.
