Do you have radon where you live?

A couple of months ago, I bought a radon test kit from the local store. The levels tested a bit high, but not dangerously so. Today the certified radon abatement guys are installing the system to make it all go away, now a requirement if you were to try to sell a home in this area (not that we're selling just yet). Anyone else with radon experiences or is this a phenomenon primarily limited to the northeast?

We discovered our home has a radon problem when we were buying it and required a radon test as a contract contingency. That was 1996.

Radon is usually associated with granite so anywhere with alot of granite in the ground can ahve higher levels than somewhere with little granite in the ground. When I lived in Devon, England we had higher levels than where I live now, which is Sussex, England. Devon has high granite content in its make up whereas Sussex ahs alot of chalk and clay.
I must say only in recent years has it become a concern due to possible links with cancer, especially leukaemia.

Claire ;)

We had to have a system installed before we sold our house.

We had a sump pump in the basement and I heard that can make it worse. :confused3

Good luck. We were in Michigan at the time.
