I remember Deb in IA telling about one they have in her area that sounded pretty neat. We have a couple in the Metro Boston area, but they're pretty pathetic, IMHO. Tell us about yours.

We have the Pitt County Fair here in North Carolina. It's pretty neat I guess. Live Animal Auction, farmers showing off there fruits and Veggies hoping to win a ribbion. The rides are okay I guess. But if your over 5 ft tall and weigh more than 150lbs. I don't recomend them. LOL. The fair I love most of all though, is the North Carolina State Fair!!! Go every year. It is AWESOME, I love it. Freak Shows, Live Animal Shows, Usually a technology tent or two. Rides, Shows, and what would a fair be without FOOD. For whatever reason, hamburgers at the fair are by far the best tasting in the world. So there ya have my 2 cents. :p

Our county fair is great!:D It's very large with lots of exhibits, games, rides and FOOD! - I go to the fair mainly just to eat. It's so hard to choose what to eat - but I manage.;) DD will be dancing at the fair again this year, so we're definitely going, even though I originally said we wouldn't. It's too close to our WDW trip and money is going to be tight. I'll have to go sell matches on the street corner.;) :p

We have tons of county fairs around here (ok, so they're also in a couple of different of counties.....;) ) We also have a couple of County Farm Shows - where cows, pigs, sheep, horses, etc. compete for prizes, as well as crops, pickles, crafts, etc. Fairs are a big time summer staple around here. The Big Butler Fair is over 100 years old.

All feature amusement rides, tons and tons of food vendors, games, usually come country-western groups or other musical entertainment, demolition derbies, tractor-pulls, etc.

Honestly, now that the kids are older, we don't go every year like we did when they were younger.

The Barnstable County fair is great! Extensive 4H exhibits and competitions, rides, games, music. We love seeing all the exhibits, talking to the kids who have their animals there to compete, the tractor and pony pulls, the horse shows...it's really fun.

I've been to the Topsfield Fair but I haven't liked it as much. I'm not a fan of the Marshfield Fair either.

But I like the Big E in Springfield...that's immense. It takes almost two days to really do it all. You should take a ride out there this fall.

I used to go every year to the Woodstock Fair in CT when I lived up there. Never missed that Fair for 25 years. Even entered my pickles and won ribbons a few times. Now that I live way down here, I miss it.

Kind of, but I live in the suburbs of NYC, its not very countryish, its just like a carnival. I won't go, those rides are death traps. www.members.aol.com/rides911 ...records of all amusement park/ride accidents. More than half of them are from carnivals and fairs. Thats when the ride fatalities usually happen.

We like to go to our state fair every year. Our county fair is just a bunch of carnival rides but the state fair is great. Ashli used to compete in the bees and honey catagory every year when she was younger. Won many blue, red and white ribbons. She also branched out and entered some of the baking contests. Her pecan pie won the blue ribbon a couple years ago.

There are local fairs all over the state from now through October. I was just researching the dates for two that we annually attend- The Ephrata Fair (large street fair) and the Denver (PA) Fair.

PA Fairs

We have a fair here. There are some rides but that is only a small part of the fair. We have tractor pulls, animal judging, music, and a lot of items people put up to get a prize. I have won several ribbons 1st and 2nd for my cross stitch pictures that I have done. There is also food judging. The big event on the Sat. is the demolition derby. It is a lot of fun. Oh there is also a lot of food there as well.

Even entered my pickles and won ribbons a few times.

My hubsand won the blue ribbon for pickles 3 years ago! He beat out all of these elderly women, who were begging him for his recipe!!:p My DS won 1 blue, 2 red, and an honorable mention for cucumbers, gladiola, and something else.
