Do you have Air Conditioning in your home?

I live in central FL. Nuff said? I don't think they even make houses w/out air conditioning here!

I think the only place we didn't have it was a really cheap ghetto apartment in Oregon.

Another Florida resident here with central air. It's pretty standard around here.

I couldn't imagine life without an a/c!!! It's been running non-stop all of June, and will be July, Aug, Sept, most of Oct, possibly into Nov. We've even run it in Dec/Jan. My middle DD's birthday is Dec. 29, and we have a picture of her on her first birthday outside in a sleeveless shirt and little skirt. That was a warm winter!
Not everyone does have an a/c here, though. Every year the local news station does a summer fan drive to give to those without a/c, so they can survive the summer. We've had record breaking heat the past week or so and I feel really bad for those without a/c.

Yes my DH would pass out without central AC the heat really bothers him. I think he keeps it too cool for me but I would miss it if we didn't have it. A pp said they don't have it due to baseobard heat, we have baseboard heat and central ac. The vents for the ac are in the ceilings.

We don't really need it here. We have tons of trees shading our property. The only reason I've considered getting it is because of my allergies. It'd be really nice not to have to open up the house in the evenings.

On warm days, we open up the windows in the evening and use fans to suck in the cooler air. With the exception of a few days a year, this is usually enough to keep the house cool.

I do have a ceiling fan in this house, which I LOVE! I'll never live without one again. I've always hated sleeping hot. I grew up in warm weather with no AC. My parents finally got central air about two years ago, but they pretty much refuse to turn it on. As we're sweltering, they'll say "It stays so nice and cool in here." We stay in a motel and get some sleep!

Oh yes! And thank goodness due to the recent weather. Right now it is quite cool out. AAAHHHH!!:)

Yes - I have a very good window unit here at the lake and literally couldn't survive without it (health reasons).. DD's home (where I live part-time) has central air.. I also have a 2 battery operated mister fans here - in case the power goes out - or I wouldn 't be able to breathe.. Tons of fresh batteries on hand, so I'd probably be okay for hours.. I actually had to use one last Friday - when the power went out (it was very humid) - but luckily the power was restored in a few hours..:thumbsup2

Even prior to having health issues, I've never been able to tolerate the heat - even as a child.. I don't know how people manage without a/c..

YUP

With a 2 story 3300 sq.ft. house, we have seperate units for each floor. On Sunday, the upstairs unit went out! It was 87 degrees upstairs. I didn't sleep upstairs on Sunday night. With windows open and the ceiling fan running, it still wasn't cool enough for me. It's fixed now - and the cooler weather is coming. (of course.)

We didn't need it growing up in Oakland - gotta love that fog! Nature's free A/C!

We're having a heatwave :sunny: right now and could sure use one! We only have a large oscillating fan.

I actually never use mine... its between 75-95 here day and night year round... and I have one... just never use it.

We lived in Puerto Rico when I was a young girl, and our house didn't have AC. However, the houses were designed to take advantage of the natural breezes on a Caribbean island, we had lots of mature trees to shade the property, and the floors were terrazo tile- nice and cool on the feet. We never suffered in the island heat- just opened up the windows to let the breeze through. We spent most of our time on our big covered porch- it was our outdoor living room.

I live in not-so-tropical North Carolina now, but couldn't live without AC!! Of course, we live in a house with no tall trees around it, carpeted floors, and without those nice island tradewinds.

I will add that DH installed a ceiling fan in our bedroom about 6 years ago and I am very glad we have it as we can at least sleep in a nice breeze when it is very warm :) :thumbsup2

Claire ;)

When I was little we didn't have any a/c and it got so hot that several of my mom's candles softened and bent in weird directions.

Oh, that is so funny because the same thing happened in our house! We had central air - my Mother just hated it and refused to use it. My bedroom was upstairs and I wasn't allowed to sleep anywhere but in my bed. It seems I barely slept all summer long it was so darm hot. I think I was the only kid alive who HATED summer.

Yeah, our place isn't that cool but its right on the ocean and we keep our screen door open and ceiling fan on. I actually have no idea why we don't use our air conditioner... sadly i think the real reason we don't use it is that we are too lazy to get up from where we sit and drink to bend down to the corner to turn it on and close all the windows.... etc.

No, we live in Michigan. We had to run the heat in June this year! We're close enough to the water that we get a nice, cooling breeze most days, and really hot weather here is pretty short lived. We couldn't add central air without major construction on the new house, because it has boiler heat and no ductwork, but it was built pre-a/c and stays surprisingly cool naturally.

Yes.

Plus we have ceiling fans in the family room, master bedroom and DD's bedroom (the bonus room over the garage). The cool breeze feels good!

It's only 70 here today (love it!) so I have the A/C off and the windows open. The normal high this time of year is 85 (we're in Central Indiana).

ETA: I just saw the earlier post about someone's mom's candles bending in weird shapes because they didn't have A/C and the house was too warm. We didn't have A/C when I was growing up. When we went on our annual summer vacation our neighbor came over to water my mom's plants and feed our goldfish. Well, when we got home our goldfish was dead. The house got so warm being closed up that the water got too warm and he died. My neighbor felt so bad. Poor fishy. :fish:

In north Texas? Hell yeah. I've ran the A/C on Thanksgiving once.

As a kid, I remember my mom running it on Thanksgiving even here in Michigan... Opening the windows just didn't cut it when she had both ovens, every burner on the stove, and a few electrical cooking appliances running and a couple dozen people in the living room! :rotfl: To this day, those are the times I miss central air the most - not when it is 95* outside, on those days we can just head to the river for a swim or a spin on the boat, but on the days when I'm cooking and entertaining and the house is heated to sweltering from the inside.

Central A/C, haven't really needed it yet this year yet though.
