Do you have Air Conditioning in your home?

Yes, it's HOT here. It's one of the few things we will not budge on when house hunting. I seriously don't know how people lived here before it was invented.

I grew up without A/C in the Northwest and if I have a choice, I'll never not have it again. I remember the streets melting and all's we had were box fans in the windows.

It's sort of a must in Missouri, particularly during the summers. In addition, my new house has fans in the three of the rooms (living room, kitchen, and master bedroom). Growing up we only had a fan in the foyer and it was really high up so I never felt like it did anything. I thought I would hate them because I hate the noise of portable fans and the feeling of something blowing on me, but now I am loving my ceiling fans, it gives everything that extra little kick.

yes yes yes

cannot live without it. It cranks also in winter. Here in Houston, every house is sold with an ac.

Right now its 100 temps.:upsidedow

I am staying at my parents house this summer. We have central AC, but my parents almost never use it. My mom hates air conditioning so they simply won't turn it on. The upstairs of the house can easily get over 90 degrees, but it doesn't matter, still won't use AC. :confused3 My parents will just open windows and turn on the ceiling fan for a hour or so. I stayed here for part of last summer too, and it was unbearable. Couldn't sleep well for days on end.

My parents are from the old school of thought that no one "needs" air conditioning. It's just a want. Our family all grew up without it, and my parents see using air conditioning as making you wimpy or something, so it never gets on - we all need to just suck it up and deal. It's not like they can't afford AC - it's like we "aren't allowed" it use it. Ever. Weird.

So this summer, I bought a window unit for my room at their house. Funny thing is, I hardly used it so far with the cool weather! But I am glad it's there - even running it for like a half hour before bedtime makes me sleep 100% better. :)

Yes we have a/c, I don't think they make houses here without a/c anymore.
ETA: I would hate to have to live without a/c, I remember the hurricane last year and it was hell.

In north Texas? Hell yeah. I've ran the A/C on Thanksgiving once.

Love your response! I had mine on for a while as I was preparing Christmas dinner more than one year. Oh, I'm in central Alabama.

Yes - 2 central units, one for upstairs, one for downstairs. The other day my 7yo turned the downstairs thermostat down to 40 and froze the thing up...it was MISERABLE in this house until the a/c guy got here.

Could not live without a/c.

When I read the title of the thread it seemed so odd that someone would even ask that question and to know that there are people that live with out it is crazy talk.

We have Central A/C, two window units (one in the family room addition and one in our bedroom), 7 ceiling fans and AT LEAST 5 or 6 portable fans.

We are fan FREAKS. We also travel with a fan. I don't want to be stuck anywhere with the possiblity of being hot. I'd be miserable and, of course, that would make my DH miserable.:thumbsup2

I have it, but don't use it. It gets cool enough here at night to cool off the house.
Actually, My HEAT has been on the past 3 days here, and I have that set at 65! :scared1:

I freeze at work all day, and the warmth feels good when I get home. (My fingers turn purple at work it's so cold)

Car AC gives me a headache

Luckily we don't need AC here. We have little if any humidity here, we live by a bay that gives us great breezes so we just open the windows and use natures AC. A HUGE change from when we lived in Northern FL. :thumbsup2

Nope. Don't have it in my car or at work either. It gets warm (85 degrees in my classroom this week) but it's fine. I don't believe in spending energy heating or cooling unless it's absolutely necessary (I don't have a drier either).

It's not very hot yet her in NYC, but oh yes, I have AC. I have trouble sleeping if the temperature is hotter than 65/70 degrees.

Wish we did right now, having a mini heat wave in the UK (note mini) but really couldn't justify it for the few weeks of the year were the heat is unbearable.

I don't even have a fan, just open all the windows!

Yes and it's a good thing because my body does not react well to heat. Last night, right around sunset, I was out looking at boats (my roommate is a boat racer and my boyfriend and I went down there to the pit area and walked around). We came back to the tent and sat down for a minute and then we saw my roommate so we walked over there. All of a sudden, my heart started racing and I got extremely dizzy. The heat was just too much for me and I had to go back and sit down with a bottle of water before I passed out.

Yes we have central air in our home, it is just too hot to live without it here in summer.

We have it here in MN too. Most of the summer is well about 80 and HUMID so AC is a must. A lot of people just "open windows" which is fine and dandy IF there is a breeze. Our computer room is on the end of the AC line and doesn't get all that cool. DS14 and a couple cousins slept in there last night, closed the door and it is about 85 in there right now. It cooled off some last night so I opened a window but it doesn't help because there is no breeze. I might get a portable unit for that room-can't do a window one because we have crank out windows.
