Do you have a tortise shell cat?

We have a 4 month old Tortie kitten and she doesn't burrow under covers. She likes to sleep on top of them.

She does, however, like to play with pipe cleaners. One pipe cleaner equals hours of fascination for her!

OMG my calico does too! And I know it's not a "breed" thing, but it's hysterical to watch her play with it, then carry it around.

I've also heard torties and calicos are notorious for having attitudes, and while this is true for my tortie, my calico is hands down the sweetest cat I've ever met.

The day I had to have my dog put to sleep, she never left my side. When I went to bed, she curled up next to me with her little paw on the side of my face. Everytime I moved, she scooted closer to me so that she could have her paw on my face. She stayed there the whole night. :lovestruc

A torti thread! Love it!! Our torti adopted us about three years ago. I'd never met one until she showed up. She is the sweetest, quirkiest most affectionate cat I've ever known. She's not much of a burrower, but she does love to get lost amongst the clothes in my closet. She'll hole up in bags and boxes, but I've had a lot of cats that do that. One of her oddest behaviors is her attraction to smells. She looooves bleach! Maybe that's fairly common with cats but we've never had one hone in on it the way she does. I always have to check for her before I turn on the dryer. The little poop will climb in and start rolling around on the clothes. She's also into strawberries. Loves the green tops. Reacts to them as if it were catnip. I looked it up online. Apparently it's related to catnip?! Who knew!

She's currently taken a liking to the Christmas village I spent 400,000 hours putting together this weekend. Godzilla kitty goes clomping through the snow trampling the trees and poor carolers then settles down for a long winter's nap. Sigh.

I will say she is the most cuddly cat we've had. A friend that also has a torti feels that that is a torti trait.

Please please please always check your dryer before you turn it on!!!

When I was 11, I got a cat from my grandparents farm. He was the funniest, sweetest most laid back cat ever. He liked to lay on the warm clothes in the dryer, and 100 years ago they didn't have that safety feature that when you open the door and then close it, it doesn't turn back on. My little brother ( he was only 4 ) closed the door and it turned on.

It broke his back and he had to be put to sleep. I freak out now if my cats even walk near the laundry room.

I'm a .....dog person?! boooooo, I know :lmao: I DO love kitties though:goodvibes I "cat-sat"/checked in on my friend's kitties while she was on vacation (I LOVE that cats don't need full-time sitters:)), she has 3 kitties and a ferret. One kitty (yellow) loves EVERYONE, one kitty (maine-coon mix) is really shy (but I was the "cat whispererer" and made friends), kitty # 3, tortise shell~likes NO ONE (except her mommy:rotfl2: ) I talked to her the entire time I scooped the litter box ("I'm your friend, I'm wearing my "Best Friends Animal Society Ball-cap") She burrowed under the covers on the bed and would NOT come out :D She did not attack me though, so I was pretty happy :goodvibes

Well, I had to google "tortoiseshell cats" to see if that's what my cat is, and sure enough she is! Who knew?

But, no, she doesn't burrow. She does like dark places though, under the bunk beds, under overhangs.. where it's dark and cozy. So, similar.

My calico - (sorry, I have to show off my baby!!! :) ) It's true what someone else said, she is crazier than any cat I have ever met, and doesn't like any people except me (her "mommy"), and 2 family substitutes whom she will tolerate if I'm not there :lmao:

I really don't think burrowing has to do with any specific breed...it's just one of those things where some cats do it and some don't. My tabby loved to burrow, as does my current cat, who is a tuxedo. They also both like(d) climbing into boxes and bags, any kind of hole to squeeze into. ;)

I'm so sorry to hear about your childhood kitty, sunnyday. I know that must've been so traumatic. :( I'm very much in the habit of checking for her and thankfully there's virtually no way for her to be in the dryer without me seeing her before turning it on, just because of the position and location of the equipment in the room. Even so though we always look, feel (in the dryer) AND do a "where's the cat" check through the house before the dryer door closes. :)

I have one.... and she loves to borrow. She'll let me make the bed around her...and stay under the FITTED sheet for awhile before she comes back out. :lmao:

You sure you didn't do a model of Tokyo instead? :rotfl2:

I used to have a cat who'd sleep in the open washing machine. I'd have to check it before I'd start the water.

aw thanks...it was!

I always do a head check before I leave the house, and when I'm doing laundry.
