Do you have a RED Room in your House?

I will never have any red in my house. When we started dating DH bought his mothers house...its ws ALL red. OMG! I cant even describe it. It was totally 70s decor(this ws 1994) and everything, rug, furniture, wallpaper, shades, curtains,etc... were all red. It was awful! Our friends all joked that we had to get visine to "get the red out", and trust me, as soon as there was talk of that becoming my house too, the red was gone.
So as you can see I have quite an aversion to any red decor. Im sure it could be done tactfully and look really nice, but I have a mental block against red now. ;) :teeth:

*Edited to add...Even the outside of the house was red. She was able to find the 1 place in America that sold red siding so the house, the porch, the fence, the "rug" type thing on the porch, mailbox, etc...were all red too.

My dining room is red and I love it !! It's called La Fonda Western red. OUr dining room table is walnut(very dark) trim is white. I wish I could post a pic but I don't know how !!

We've been in this house for a year...and I still haven't finished painting, but...

The Dining Room is to be red. Dark Burgundy Red.

One of my bathrooms has burgundy red accents (rugs, curtain, toliet seat) and gold. We embraced the tackyness:p We decided to go with the flow, and kinda have it "over the top". If you ever visit, you'll have to sign the guest book. Yes, we have a guest book in the bathroom (the comments left crack me up:teeth: )

How have I missed that ??. Actually, I don't think I've ever gone into the bathroom. I'll put that on my list of things to do next time :teeth:.

And the dining room will look great in burgundy ::yes::.

I love bold colors. My kitchen is currently green but is about to become a ..... best way to describe it is a rusty red color.

Plus, I'm about to make my guest room a Mickey room. Going to paint it "Mickey red". Probably not the entire room. I actually saw on HGTV a red border on khaki walls which I really liked. The border was probably 2 feet around the top of the wall. Thought I could do that and put black shelves where the two colors meet and display my Disney stuff.

My cousin just painted her kitchen red, it's gorgeous! I think it's a color with so much character. Though I do believe you need the right furniture to pull it off. Their kitchen has a lot of stainless steel and it looks very fitting.

Red, done right, can look very rich/warm/inviting...just don't go for the red/cream/black look! heheh

good luck!

LOL - You better stay away from out house then, stinkderbelle~ :teeth: Our living room is painted a dark red/burgundy with cream carpet and the only furniture in it right now is a black baby grand piano. It is unfinished, though because although the piano takes up most of the room, I would like to add a chair and table in the corner as well as put some picutres on the walls. I do love the color and I think it will look great once I finish furnishing it and get more on the walls.

Maybe you were...um..."busy"... We've had it since the Oscar party. I need to get a big plumby feather pen to go with it. That way, you won't miss it next time:D

My house has the "blues" we are blue on the outside, my living room and computer rooms walls are white with RED curtains, does that count? My couch is black, lol. I rent, so all the walls downstairs HAVE to be white, BUT, my upstairs has color.... BLUE :p

Our guest room is a dark reddish burgandy with cream colored accents. I really love it, it's my favorite room in the house. But yes it was a pain to get the color smooth I think I used at least 3 coats of paint last summer. It was well worth it!

My parents built there house back in 1964.

In the main bedroom they chose a pure red carpet. They still have that same carpet in the bedroom to this day.

My mom is so tired of seeing it but my dad just loves it. My dad is the one that fights to keep it each time the subject comes up. My mom always give in to him so I think that red carpet is here to stay.

It is really hard to believe but the carpet and pad are still in really good shape after all these years.

We painted our half bath in a glossy deep red. This bath is off of our theater room in the basement and we went with a deco look. Classic Pin-Up photos in black frames, black and white tile floor, pedistal sink. I will warn that glosssy paint is a bear to paint with in a dark color. I can't even remember how many coats we had to apply to get a smooth look. In some spots (behind the door) you can still see roller streaks. (Oh well at least the lighting is low!!!)
Here is a pic...

I love RED! It's MY color as I find it very energizing. I have wallpaper with a red background in my kitchen (I didn't choose it, it came with the house), red paint in my powder room and laundry room. I'm in the process of painting my upstairs craft/scrapbooking room Ralph Lauren's Longjohn Red (yes, it does take 3 coats for good coverage). I also have red accents throughout my house.

My shade of red is considered close to a barn red. It's not a bright primary color. It has deep tones and looks great with the white trim. It really makes my english country pine antique furniture "POP". I've mixed it with warm sunny golden shades of yellow and moss greens.

My philosophy is "you can't have enough of the right color red"!:D

We painted our kitchen red. It's called rapture red (made by glidden), and it looks a bit brighter in this picture than it is, it's more deep than the picture shows. Also please don't mind the mess, we obviously aren't done yet (painting the window, putting trim up, cleaning etc.)

Not yet but I will be painting the bedroom red (well, more of a magenta) when we get a house. I know it sounds weird but it matches our comforter set.

We just painted painted 3 of the 6 walls in our family room/basement a cranberry red. They are smaller walls, two in an office area, one a small wall were the enteretainment center lives. They other walls are golden yellow. My family (mom and sis) thought I was nuts, but now we all LOVE it. It really warmed the room up. We have beige carpeting and denim blue/red plaid furniture. Kind of a cabin-y feeling. FIVE coats of red paint, we didn't think about the primer but I still think it would have been five coats of something.

I hope to do my kitchen in a shade of cranberry, too....:Pinkbounc

My family room is red. 3 walls are red( deep brick red), the last wall is called pale sunshine. Couch is a red plaid, and wall unit is antique heirlooms collection from broyhill

Wow! You guys are all great!!! Thanks so much for all the tips.I know I have have been frustrated and discouraged with the red if I didn't know about the primer and to relax that it will take more than one coat to look better...

I love the pictures that you guys shared...beautiful rooms.......

Now I am leaning toward the cranberry/barn red color with the wall that connects into the sun room some yellowish shade....

I also love the idea of the cabiny feel.....now I guess I am off to look at furniture...this room is what I call our family room but is mainly the TV room in our house as we do not have one in the living room....and this room connects with a sunroom and is a half wall/counter into the kitchen...

Excited to start now!!!

Keep the ideas coming...Thank you all so much!

My grandma adores the color red. The outside of the house is painted red (more of a maroon...it's very pretty)

She also has red appliances in the kitchen. It is veyr warm and inviting.

My dining room and 1/2 bath are red. Dining Room has wainscoting, a coffered ceiling and hardwood floors that compliment the red walls. The only piece of furniture I have in there right now is an Asian Bombay chest. Bath is just red with crown moulding at the top.
