I am getting so sick of the colors in my house! Our family room is has a lot of natural light as we have a patio door and 2 large windows. This room is really not bery big...maybe 12 x 14...

Anyway, I was thinking I would like to paint it some shade of red...but, am not sure what to do wtih a "red room".

Anyone have a house with a red room? What shade? What color furniture? Carpet? Trim?

Do you have a picture you would be able to share?

I have one friend who painted her kitchen a deep reddish/maroon and another who painted her kitchen the same color.

The living room was only painted with this color on two walls & I think it looks great! (sorry, no pics)

we painted our "guest room" in our old house red.
I was watching WAY too many decorating shows.
it had red walls (Behr "Riding Hood" i believe), beige carpet, white trim/doors, black curtain tied with raffia, cream/black bed linens w/ animal print accents.

I personally hated it.
Red is SUCH a hard color to paint...I really reccommed doing a tinted primer before painting...will give you a much more even application. (we didn't do that. heheh)

Red, done right, can look very rich/warm/inviting...just don't go for the red/cream/black look! heheh

good luck!

My friend just moved into an apartment with antique red walls in the living room. It's very pretty. She decorated the room in sort of a country home theme, very antique like. Her furniture is beige. It looks really nice. :)

Our den is all pine with deep red mini blinds. The colors in the blinds go from the deep red to a burgundy almost to an orangy color...from light to dark.

We have a blood red braided rug in the room and lots of red accents. Red can be a difficult color to match which is why we decided to use all reds, as long as they were complimentary hues.
That makes it pretty easy.

I love the colors and they go well with Disney collections too. :p

Lots of people will tell you that if it's a small room the color can be too much. Our red room is quite small but the colors work great in it. Maybe I'll try to find some pictures to post later today.

Yep - right now red kitchen, in the new house I'll have a red kitchen / dining room. I LOVE it! It's so warm and cozy.

Yes, you have to do a tinted primer. At Home Depot they had us do a grey tinted primer, the painters at the new house are doing a pink tinted primer. Expect the primer plus maybe 3 coats of red.

We painted the two non-log walls of the office in our new house a dark "velvet mirlot" red. It really looks nice with the log walls.

I had a red laundry room. All of my accents (cabinets, appliances are white). Red is a wonderful color; however, you have to be VERY careful to use the *right* red. Some reds are more on wine side, some are more earthy. I prefer the earthy reds. The other ones look a little harsh to me. Red is predominantly used is the dining room or kitchen areas. It is a stimulating color and stimulates the appetite. If you want to do something that is cozy, stay on the side of the earth reds and maybe just do one one of the room. Such as the wall with all the windows or the wall that is the focal point in the room. Use lots of white or cream trim. Red looks best with furniture that is cream or yellow-toned (other warm colors). Have many other light accents in the room.

I'll be doing my living room in a deep burgandy this fall. Trim will be white. I'm thinking that the wall with the big bow window on it will have a white wainscotting type thing on the bottom. Hardwood floors with an area rug, not sure about the pattern yet.

My kitchen is painted 2 colors- cream and brick red. I love my crazy red kitchen!

The kids' room is done in fire engine red with primary yellow trim and blue door.

My dining room is a cranberry color. I think it's really pretty. I have read once that the color red increases appetite. I don't know if there's any truth to that.

Diane, we have the same color red in our living room, we have it on all four walls (there's plenty of natural light) & it looks GREAT!

We just recently painted our dining room a deep red. I have white and oak furniture in there and a large bay window. I just love it! As soon as we can we are going to put up a white chair rail and crown moulding.
We were nervous at first but we both are so happy we did it. It was a hard color to paint with tho! Don't get discouraged. When we first started it looked awful (we did start with a tinted primer) We started to think we made a HUGE mistake but as we put on more coats it evened out just fine.
Be patient is all I can say! LOL

I have red furniture in the family room that's attached to our kitchen. To balance things out I'm going to have them paint the 2 walls behind the light maple cabinets the same red color. I think it'll be just the right amount of "punch".
I used to not like red but ever since I saw the furniture in the store I've been on a red kick.

We have one of those L shaped rooms that is formal dining/Living room and have 2 of the walls in the dining area painted red. The rest of the walls are kind of a gold color. It sounds kind of weird now that I type it, but our house is decorated pretty mission/Frank Lloyd Wright style and the colors work well with that. I have the sofas in the LR slipcovered in red which ties the two areas together. I've got to admit, I steal most of my decorating ideas straight from the pictures in the Pottery Barn catalog.;)

Two of my friends have red kitchens (one is more country themem and the other is pretty modern/contemporary) and I know a ton of people who have red powder rooms. They all look really nice.

I have deep red (cranberry) wallpaper with flesh colored flowers and light green vines in my dining room. I love it. My living room is accented with one red upholstered chair with green stripes.

We just finished my husband's home office. The walls are a dark brick red, it's called "Maple Leaf" by Benjamin Moore. We used a red primer underneath and it still took 3 coats to get it perfect. I absolutely love it though. The furniture in there is all antique cherry finish, the cornice is the same red background with fall color leaves, wood blinds in antique cherry, the chair is the same deep olive as the leaves in the cornice. We also have Tiffany stained glass floor and desk lamps in the same colors and hardwood floors. I managed to find an Oriental rug in the same colors as well. I think it really came out great!

Red can be truly beautiful if you get the right shade.
