Do you have a Fry Daddy?

We have one and use it once every other month or so--mostly for wings, but occasionally for tempura or fries. I would not think of it as a good substitute for the oven. We grill a lot in the summer--much healthier and keeps the food smells and heat outside when it's hot.

FWIW, I find the size inadequate when I make wings. I think I'm going to get a frying thermometer and clip, and use my dutch oven for this instead in the future (or maybe as additional frying space). Everyone hangs over me like vultures waiting for the fresh batch to come up. I always make some oven wings as well so we have plenty to eat while waiting, but it's the fried buffalo wings that everyone wants--the oven wings just can't compare.

I have a fryer made by TFal. Have had it for years and we use it a lot. While we do most of our cooking in the summer on the grill, after awhile the same side dishes get old. I can easily take the fryer outside with me and make hush puppies, onion rings, french fries, corn fritters or whatever while I still man the grill. I have perfected the setup over the years for keeping food covered and warm while combating the outside elements.

We have one that gets used every now and again. We use peanut oil and change it after about 6 to 8 uses.
