I'm clueless when it comes to making coffee since I don't drink it. I'd like to get my son a nice coffeemaker for Christmas, but I don't even know what features I should look for. A friend of his just received a coffeemaker for a wedding gift that grinds the beans, etc...and he loves that one.
Any suggestions?

Cuisinart 12 Cup Model, non grinder model. I don't know the exact model number. Makes great coffee, Very Hot. Programable, Filters water, Variable Temp. Easy to clean and adaptable to Gold filters.

My husband is my favorite coffee maker! LOL! Seriously, I just buy whichever is the least expensive...to me the coffee all tastes the same! Sorry I couldn't be much help!

I've owned a Cuisinart Grind & Brew for about 3 years now. It's a pain in the patoot since you must clean the guts of the machine after every brew and it takes about 10-15 minutes for a brew cycle to complete.
My next coffee maker is going to be a Bunn. It's simple and quick making good coffee.

I think the cone filter ones are better, plus they use less coffee. We got a Melitta for our wedding that lasted about 10 years. Since then, we have to buy one every year or two. After years of using better brands and them only lasting a year or two, I bought a cheapo Mr. Coffee cone one and really can't tell a lot of difference. We use good coffee and grind the beans, though. I don't think I would get a built-in grinder.

::yes:: My DH wakes up in the morning before i do and makes the coffee.

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE my Bunn. Got it from my mom and dad when they thought it was broken and they bought a new one. It simply needed a new gasket...so I got a 99.00 coffee maker for free.:teeth:

We've had our Krup's machine since we got married 14 years ago. I't looks kind of ratty and stained but can't justify getting a new one since it still works great! Darn it.

I have a Melitta Mill and Brew. It's easy to use and not hard to clean out. It turns off after about an hour, but I just turn it back on (after I disable the grind feature) and it stays on another hour.

Definitely the Bunn, and I'd go with one of the new ones with the thermal carafe.

I'm not a big coffee drinker, so I love my Melita 1:1.

I like the Braun products. Features I like are programmable--it will turn on in the AM and automatically shuts off if you forget. I have a separate grinder and that has made a huge difference in my coffee drinking experience. I also order my beans from a place in New Orleans and another in NYC. Beleive it or not, it is cheaper to do it that way than to buy the beans I like locally.

I think a coffee maker with grinder and accessories (scoop and brush) along with some coffee beans would make an awesome gift. Maybe throw in a Christmas mug. I can get you the e-mail for the coffee places I mentioned if you would like.

I have a Krups Aroma Control, I love it!
I grind my beans in a separate grinder each night and then put it on auto and it's ready when we wake up.

LOL! That's exactly what we did. We got tired of having CLEAN it out every time we wanted to brew a fresh pot, and we're major coffee drinkers, at least 4 pots a day between the 3 of us. Got the Bunn. Makes great coffee and brews FAST!

Thanks everyone! When the funeral is over and things settle down around here I'm going to write down all your suggestions. Christmas shopping will be here before we know it. Thanks for your help!
