I am looking for a cooler/backpack to carry to the parks and on outings. I want it large enough for lunch for a family of 5 plus maybe a camera and such, and I want it comfortable to carry on my back all day.

Do you have one that you like that you can recommend.

Whoops....I thought the thread was titled, "Do you LOOK cooler when wearing a backpack?"

To which I reply.........yes...yes I do thankyouverymuch. :rotfl:

Hmm well if by lunch for 5 you mean drinks too I don't know if this is big enough. (but really would you want to be luggging that around all day anyway?)

We used this on our last trip- family of 6 held 3 water bottles and a soda can- along with other various snacks. And comfortable to carry

Except ours is pink and it converts to a backpack via a ZIPPER along the back strap. Perhaps 2 of those would work? And my daughter (11) carried ours around. She liked it.

Thanks. I think that one may be too small for what I am thinking of.

We have both these coolers and have used both on trips to Disney. The gray one holds 6 regular size water bottles and does a good job keeping them cold. The igloo one we put 9 bottles in it plus a can or 2. The only problem with the igloo that I found was trying to squeeze it between your legs on splash mountain and rock n roller coaster. It was very comfortable to carry. We now just use the gray one as it is much easier to handle. Good luck finding them in the stores, I had to order online from target.

yes and I LOVE IT! It was $25 at Target. Igloo brand.

we take it everywhere. Even if it's for a ride in the car and want to take some cold water.

It's worth every penny!

I second this! We have the same exact one and it has plenty of pockets and compartments for extras. The straps are padded also!

I have this to. Love it we use it for everything

We have this one too & love it!! :thumbsup2
I think we've carried 9 bottles of water in it, plus extra ice packs. Just last weekend we left the house at 8am & returned at 9pm for a all-day baseball event. The waters were still cold (but not freezing) around 8pm.

Thanks.

How cold does this keep things? I don't mind water that isn't ice cold but would it keep a soda ice cold?

I don't mind NOT carrying soda in it, I was just curious.

I have the igloo too and it keeps stuff cold. We freeze a water bottle for our ice block and it never unfreezes so we can drink it, we have to take it out and put it in a fanny back so it thaws. It stays cold!!

Thanks everyone! And thanks for letting me know Target may not have it in stock.....that helps as I don't want to think I can get it the week before we leave and have it not available!

I did see this particular one in the store last month before we went on our trip, so maybe they will have one now.

How do you keep your sandwiches from getting squished? Or snacks?

That is one thing about this cooler is that it is just one large open area, right? So no compartments?

Thanks,

Dawn

We have one that we purchased from Eddie Bauer a couple of years ago. It holds a huge amount of stuff.

We just put the sandwiches on the top and heavy stuff on the bottom. I've read where some use tupperware for their sandwiches but I didn't want to lug that.

We use sandwich containers. They are made by rubbermaid called TakeAlongs . We found them in a grocery store in the aisle where they sell plastic containers. I think they come in a 2pack. We also have ones made by Crayola. I found those in grocery store hanging in the bread aisle. Each one of my kids had their own color which made it easy for them to grab the right sandwiches from the bag on their own.

When I bought the backpack cooler at Target, while I was in the store, I went over to the aisle where they sell rubbermain plastic containers. I bought the one that was the biggest one that would fit in the backpack and still leave a small bit of room. I think it's a cake holder or a brownie holder. Very light weight. Then we put our sandwiches in there to not get squished. Also, I out a can of pringles on the outside pocket. Hope that helps.

You all are VERY helpful! Thank you!

Ok, so here is another Q: When I saw this cooler in Target about a month ago it had a zip out plastic liner that would be great for cleaning.

I went yesterday and they had ONE left but it did NOT have the zip out plastic liner.

I didn't get it because it was the same price as the one with the liner.

Does yours have a liner? A clear pastic liner that can zip out for cleaning?

Thanks,

Dawn
