Please explain how America has one of the highest cric rates in industrialized nations AND one of the highest AIDS rates. Explain how Africa has 70% men circ'd and THE highest AIDS rate in the world. You can't just take a news snippet and call it fact, you have to understand the studies and the methodology. This is bad science- they are going to kill millions by telling them that because they are circ'd, they can't get AIDS. It's just untrue. In fact, not one peer reviewed medical journal allowed the "study" to be published in their journal, because it was shoddy science. The Lancet wouldn't publish it. Since they couldn't get it published in a legitimate medical journal, they took it to the popular press who ran with it, with NO understanding of the science that is supposed to be behind it.

S'okay. They Swear that vaccines didn't have anything to do with the explosive rise in autism spectrum disorders in America, yet politicians made SURE drug companies would be off the hook if things changed...The same drug companies that put large doses of mercury, yes the lethal stuff in thermometers, as a preservative in lager doses of vaccines....

Because hey....A syringe brought into the exam room as the vaccine...parents wanted their kids to not get Mumps or polio...

but never saw the actual dose drawn from the vial and TRUSTED the PEDIATRICIAN to care for the child almost as much as the parent.

Consider what EVERYONE KNEW, acordding to science 40 years ago. And what we know now. What will we know next year??

I agonized over getting my Ds circumcised 11 years ago. I felt badly for having it done......

I am now more than little glad it was done. It's not a cure all....I know that. BUt I'd rather it already be done than have it done to him now as a preventive measure....

My life experiences have caused me to think certain ways about things, and these things I'm particularly passionate about:

Lobbying for funding for chromosome anomalies research.

Advocating for special needs children - particularly in the area of physicans and their lack of research, knowledge and training on treating children with chromosome disorders. I advocate for "treat the child, not the syndrome".

Abortion due to poor prenatal diagnosis, and doctors that encourage it - another sore spot with me. Don't even try to get me to see "the other side" of that coin.

The right to own guns.

The ACLU and their frivolous lawsuits - don't even get me started.

Crocs - I still think they're the ugliest shoes on the planet! :teeth:

Parental rights in the public schools and Special education in virtual charter schools are my "argumentative" passions

My other one is safe photo preservation/life stories.

I'm very curious about your stance on special ed in cyber charter schools! My DS spent a year in one and he was receiving "services" too.

Not sure I understand--you think doctor should encourage parents to abort a "defective" fetus or you think they should not?

This is a sore point with me as well. I have a son with a very rare chromosomal defect which has a poor prognosis. I'm actually glad we didn't know what he had before birth because we would have been advised to abort. We have heard all the terrible predictions, "vegetative", "die young", "poor quality of life." But I came to realize that none of our doctors had actually ever seen a child with my child's syndrome. So we quit asking their advice.

Today my 10yo son is one of the happiest kids on the planet. He walks, he feeds himself, he swims, he sings & plays the piano, he kisses and hugs us. He is very mentally handicapped and will always need 24hr supervision. But his "quality of life" is very good--he knows he is loved. He gives us more joy than you can imagine. I cry to think how many parents were given the terrible predictions that we heard and decided not to let the baby live. They'll never know the joy they missed.

Sorry to hijack the thread. Please don't turn this into a debate. This is just one of my passions.

I'm not sure why the topic changed from circ to vaccines, but...I'll go with it. I happen to agree wholeheartedly about vaccines. Like you said, what was "known" 40 years ago, is different than what is "known" today. Circ was a cure-all for all kinds of ailments- insanity, elephantitis, masterbation- you name it, circ cured it. The cures, of course, changed with the latest fear. They used to say circ could cure cancer, now they say it can cure AIDS. Next, circ will probably cire the Avian Flu (bird flu). Circ doesn't prevent anything. It can ever so slightly reduce the incidence of getting certain VERY RARE illnesses or diseases. but again, it depends on many confounding variables ( sanitation, diet, population, ....)

Now, if a solid peer reviewed study showed that circ could GREATLY reduce the chances of getting a COMMON disease, I might be in for it.

Since I am from canada , a lot of the things I read on other posts dont work here ( book banning , gun control etc.)

I am passionate about the environemt ( Dont try to convince me that you need an SUV :) ), human rights , my province becoming a country and mostly , my foundation, The littles Elfves , that sends Holyday gifts to residence for people living with HIV/ AIDS across Canada and some childreen hospitals caring for chilreed infected or affected by HIV/AIDs

Improving the failing fostercare system...more specifically, stop giving abusive bios endless opportunities to get their children back and lessen the time it takes to place children with adoptive forever families.
RIP Dave Thomas.

I have many but the thing I am most passionate about is sex education. Wait until marriage is a joke. I am a child of teenage parents who will freely admit they didn't know anything about birth control. My parents were divorced by the time they were 18, with two kids. Not the best situation for raising children.

Animals Rights

Historic Preservation

Preservation of forests and other wild lands

I'm also pretty strong about keeping religion out of the schools. I would welcome a class teaching about all of the major religions and a moment of silence or Christmas displays don't bother me. However, actually pushing any religious doctrine bothers me.

Circumcision. I've learned to just padlock the tongue because it is one of those issues where peoples minds will not be changed. If someone asks a constructive question, I'll try to give a constructive answer without adding my opinion into it. If they ask me my opinion, I'll give it to them. ;)

Homelessness - this is the United States. There is no reason why people are living on the streets and not in a home or shelter at the very least.

Hunger - we live in the wealthiest country in the world. There is absolutely no reason why any child is going to bed hungry. None whatsoever.

Basic human rights for ALL citizens, regardless of one's sexuality. religion, sex, etc.... I defy anyone to try to keep me from marrying my partner of 15 years. You try, I'll just fight all that much harder and shout you down and I won't stop until I win. And it will happen soon enough.

Book banning - no one on this planet will ever tell me what I can or cannot read, and I'll fight like hell to maintain that right for myself and anyone else.
