Do you have a bird?

I've got a "few" birds :teeth:

7 parakeets and 5 cockatiels

I started out with 2 parakeets.. not sure what happened? :confused3 Now I have a bunch of identical white parakeets with a blue stripe across their bellies.. can't tell them apart to name them... I think it must have been quintiplets..lol :rotfl2:

The cockatiels are named Pixel (the grump, doesn't like the other cockatiels, likes to stay in the parakeet cage), R2, D2, Tweezer and Piper. Piper is the only female and ironically, the only talker in the group - which is unusual for females birds

I wanted to bump this, because I am wanting a bird and want to hear more stories and see more pics!

We had a budgie when I was a kid. well, only for a few monthes, we were bird-sitting for my grandpa. He taught it some cool things.

If the tap was running, she would jump into the sink and have a shower, and flap around in the water whistling and having a grand old time.
She would sit on your shoulder, and kiss you.
She would fly all over the house. Liked to sit on the curtain rods.
As soon as someone got into the shower, she would fly in there and sit on the shower rod watching you and singing.
When you came into the kitchen in the morning, she would whistle at you (you know-the you are pretty whistle)
She loved corn on the cob and would eat it the whole thing.
If you asked her "are you a pretty bird?" she would nod and whistle.
She could even say a few things-yes, no, quiet, hi, shhhhh.

I want a bird. Besides them being messy, any other bad things about them?

My mom has a parrot, and she is pretty mean. She bites everyone. She takes chunks out of fingers and ears. She will eat anything, loves peanuts. They will take her out of her cage, and put her outside in their cherry tree. (her wings are clipped) She will sit out there for hours, eating the cherries, whistling away. It is funny to see her out there.

Any more bird lovers?

I have a sweet little cockatiel named Lollipop. My DH got her for me just this past Christmas and she was THE best present ever. She loves to nuzzle my cheek. She wolf whistles and can whistle the Andy Griffith song. I'm trying to teach her Pop Goes the Weasel, but she doesn't like that one so much.

I'm trying to learn all I can about birds, because when we move into a bigger house I'd like to get an African gray or a green winged macaw.

we've got a 9 year old parakeet, belle or bell (we kind of named it before we found out it was a boy...). he says choice phrases, usually when we're on the phone, like, "pretty bird", "come here belle", "hello belle". he also likes to whistle like i whistle at him. he sure does love squaking too.

he's a great bird, we've never had one for so long. i'm hoping that he'll be around for a while. :teeth:

We have a Nanday Conure named Cee-Cee. She is 7 years old. She sits on my shoulder while I am on the boards. When she is tired [or doesn't want to go back to her cage], she crawls under my shirt and hangs on to my bra strap and naps. She gives lots of kisses and her first words were "Come Here" {with a little bit of attitude}. We got her when she was 7 months old. We lived in an apartment then and wanted a pet and she "picked us out". She is beautiful bird and we love her very much. The dog would love to be her friend but Cee-Cee isn't having any parts of that. Personally I think the bird just likes to tease the dog!

We have 2 cockatiels.. One is named Tequila and the other is named Sunrise

We have a beautiful Cockatiel named Tweety. It is what they call a Latino which is white with some yellow on it. It is a very sweet bird and whistles the Adams Family and Andy Griffith songs. (not perfectly, but well enough to recognize.) Oh, and it recognizes our car when it pulls into the driveway and starts whistling.

We had two quakers (Fozzy a female and Murray a male). Fozzy dies last year (age 6) with a bound egg and Murray turned 9 in may.

Fozzy was very sweet and quiet. Murray is quite mean but has a very BIG personality. He has a vocab of about 30 words/sounds.

During our recent vacation Murray learned to meow because the Vet who was watching Murray was also watching a kitten. So now we have a bird that barks like a dog (we had two) and meows like a cat.

I have a male ecclectus parrot named Boudreaux. I'd post his photo if I could remember how to get to the members' photo gallery.

We had a cockateil named Monet for many years, she died last summer, and we still miss her singing and squaking! :sad1:

Here are a few pics of my family's cockatiels. Romeo is the Gray one. We bought him at a few months old in 1990. My mom named him Romeo because when we met him he immediately snuggled up on the back of her neck :lovestruc . The albino is my bird that I bought as a baby in 1997. We should name her "Juliet" but I call her pretty girl.

Poor Romeo! He always scratches her head for her but when he puts his head down for her to scratch his, she puts her head down instead! She is a demanding woman. :teeth:
