Do you have $700 to blow?

Starting March 11th, you can purchase annual pasports for both coasts. Yikes. I figured I would have to go to DL and WDW both twice each year and it still wouldn't cover the 700 cost. Really only good for east or west coast folks (primarily East) and people that travel often.

Benefits include:

  • Unlimited admission for 365 to Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney's Hollywood Studios, Disney's Animal Kingdom, Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure, including Park Hopper privileges
  • Parking for all theme parks
  • Unlimited admission to Disney's Typhoon Lagoon and Disney's Blizzard Beach water parks at Walt Disney World
  • Subscriptions to Passholder publications
  • A one-year subscription to Disney Family Fun magazine (one per household)
  • Unlimited admission (except activities/events specially priced) to DisneyQuest in Downtown Disney Orlando, ESPN's Wide World of Sports Complex (valid only on event days; some events require an additional admission charge) and Disney's Oak Trail Golf Course (greens fee only; tee time reservations are required and subject to availability).

IF we were staying in CA and didn't have another situation already in place we would jump at this!

Yeah, don't have that kind of money, nor that kind of Disney time. But, isn't parking in DL really expensive? It seems like that additional perk might make the pass worthwhile for someone who lives close to DL (i.e. close enough to visit for the day periodically) and takes 2 WDW trips per year. (Yeah, it's a small group, but, they exist.)

I'm not sure but I think parking at DL is about $20? We never park since we take shuttles to our hotel and the hotel is a 5-10 minute walk to the front gate. But parking is a nightmare due to DL being full almost every day. No such thing as off season anymore there.

Yeah, so, say you live a 1.5hr drive away and like to go for the day twice a month -- that would be a cost of about $240. And, suddenly the pass starts to seem worthwhile if you also go to WDW.

I just read the new offer too, and wondered if they would include a further discount for DVC members, as they do on the other annual passes, bringing it down to like $600 if they gave a 100 dollar DVC discount.

It would pay for itself for three visits, but that is a lot of Disney in 12 months.
And I would want to do a lot of Disney Dining as well.

Also I am not really in need of waterpark options, I have a lot of them leftover to probably last 3 more years from now.

It was nice to think about it for about 5 minutes, until I thought of my budget.

I wonder if they could throw in the Tables of Wonderland discount card and offer monthly installments.

Noooooo ! I will spend less money at Disney Parks this year, and think of Disney Vero Beach and Harry Potter at Universal instead.

But -------

If the decisions on which ticket to buy were already difficult enough before this offer ! :rotfl:

Yeah I thought about it for about 1 minute is all. Would love to have a dual coast annual pass, but being in Dallas, we just don't get to both parks enough to pay for itself. Maybe someday, when I'm rich and famous. :sad2:

I did read somewhere after the dual coast pass was debuted, that they're talking about starting a monthly payment option for Florida as well. CA only offers it for southern California residence, but Florida they said would be different and open to more, but not sure about the specifics.

i can't wait for the payment plan, if there is one.

A while back, we did a dvc tour, and they offered 4 annual passes to each coast. Castle to castle option or something like that. Ohhh it made things so tempting, but poor as can be.

I met a family once from australia that went to DL for a week before coming to WDW for two.

Here's what I found over at MousePlanet, which is usually a great source:

Few details are available about the Walt Disney World monthly payment option, which is not expected to launch until sometime this summer. The Disneyland version, currently restricted to Southern California residents only, requires customers to make a deposit equal to the cost of a one-day, one-park ticket. The remaining monthly payments are then automatically charged to a credit card placed on file at the time the passport is purchased. The Walt Disney World version is expected to be open to all Florida residents, and will require a deposit and credit card payments similar to the Disneyland pass. Non-residents are not expected to be eligible for this option.

The resort is reportedly launching this plan as another attempt to grow their Annual Passholder base. Disneyland saw sales of Annual Passes skyrocket after launching the monthly payment plan, and Walt Disney World is hoping that the financing option will help boost sales of their pricier passes. If the two plans are similar, a Florida resident would be able to "upgrade" their $79 one-day, one-park ticket (expected to go to $83 this August if current patterns hold) to a seasonal annual passport with payments of about $15 per month. After deposit, payments for the Florida resident Premium AP would be just under $40 per month - still a big chunk, but much easier on the budget than shelling out $489 (current price) at one time. Note that all prices listed do not include tax.

I mentioned the new pass to DH and he just sort of shrugged. We don't need water parks included in our APs, and we probably wouldn't go to DL more than once for maybe 3 or 4 days. We get a LOT of use and value out of our WDW APs, and the DVC discount makes it even better. I think we have already used our current APs for 17 days at WDW, and we'll get about 14 more before they expire. So 31 park days for about $400 per person. Not too shabby!!

It IS a great deal and I WISH we could do it. The good deals always happen when I have other plans!

In 2011, I will be at both parks. I haven't really looked into ticket prices for DL, but I am not sure that it will be worth the extra cost beyond my WDW AP.

I do know a few folks that travel to SoCal frequently for work and hold both DL and WDW AP's. (I've begged to apprentice, but as of yet, it is to no avail.)

I am glad for those that can go from coast to coast that they can carry one form of ticket media. I wish I could be one of them.

DL AP's cost around 439 or around 30 bucks a month, parking included. Found out anyone can do monthly payments on those. A 3 to 6 day parkhopper is around 184-214.

Apparently it's $211 to upgrade from a standard WDW annual pass... not bad to add the waterparks, etc. and Disneyland (if I were EVER going to go back there again.... which I'm pretty sure I'm not.)
